My poor 6 is totalled
Bad news 6 is gone, good news I may add another 3 to the family.

I was on my way to school to take some finals, about 30 miles from my house, and about halfway there I hit an Airstream trailer that crossed over the road in front of me. They were turning left into an Airsteam Park and I don't really remember what happened. I locked the brakes up and remember getting hit in the chest and it being really smokey. The speed limit changed about 10 feet from where my skid marks started from 65 to 55 and I honestly don't remember how fast I was going. I was probably going about 50 when I hit the trailer. It was a big impact. The car hasn't officially been totalled yet, but the airbags deployed and the frame is bent. There was also oil leaking out of somewhere. The other party was cited as fault.

I am fine, but I missed two finals. I have whiplash, but nothing big. I talked to both teachers and got that worked out, assuming no injuries shows up before tommorow. The car did exactly what it was supposed to do, it looks like crap, but I walked away with just a little scrape from my knee hitting something or another. I took a picture with my camera phone.

Time for a rant:

This couldn't of happened at a worse time. I have to go to 3 finals tommorow, and I know that I am going to be sore as all hell. I am already pretty sore and my neck is hurting. I hope I don't wake up and am too sore to move. At least I have a week off after Monday.

I'm kinda pissed about the whole thing. The first thing the wife of the driver said when she got out wasn't are you ok or anything it was "serves you right for going so fast," and tried to say it was my fault. I was prob going about 65 in a 55 which had just changed from a 65 about 10ft or so before my skid marks started. I don't remember my speed. Later as I looked in the trailer, stuff was thrown everywhere and there were lots broken dishes, she said look at the mess you made. She really pissed me off.

Plus the driver, who is 80, couldn't understand why it was his fault. If you can't understand why turning in front of traffic and causing and accident is your fault, you shouldn't be driving.

End rant, we'll see what the insurance says. My parents want me to contact a lawyer. I am going to wait and see what they offer, if they lowball me, I will get a lawyer. If they offer me a fair amount, I'll accept it and get a new car. I'm not looking to make a lot of money of this and go sue happy, I just want what the car was worth.

Oh that really bites the chubby one. Firstly and, as always, I'm glad to see you made it out to tell your story - wounds can always heal. Make sure you take care of yourself; go to a physical therapist, get x-rays and do whatever the doc's tell you. You'll not have to live with the pain for as long. I'm sure the insurance would cover all of that.

Secondly, damn about the car. That about sums it up.

Thirdly, [fill this area in with the standard rant about inattentive and/or not-so-sharp-reflexed drivers, in this case, coincidentally, an elderly man].

Definitely go get checked out good by your doctor to make sure there isn't anything serious going on that may not be visible until later on after its settled and its too late. Get all the physical therapy you need, that is just something you don't play around with and assume it will get better.

Glad you are ok, sounds like a pretty vicious hit, could have been much worse I imagine. Let us know how it goes.

Shit, I would get yourself checked out...for real. I remember I was in a crash a few years ago (was not my fault) but the car was a write off becuase the frame is bent...If thats the case, the struct has been weaken and will stay that way if you decide to fix it.

I did go to the hospital. They said everything was pretty much ok, but I have whiplash. Nothing serious. I had a couple of neck X-Rays done, nothing big. We shall see how everything works out.

I really don't know right now. I'm in a much better financial situation then when I bought the car. I have enough disposable income to move up a lot, but I think I'm going to save it up and get something reasonable. I'm thinking about getting the 3, because I only want a 4cyl, and I don't need that big of a car. I would've got a 3 if they would have been out when I bought my 6, summer 03. I am tempted however, after seeing how well I came out of the crash. I am also thinking G35 coupe. Any other suggestions at or below 30k? I just don't know yet, and it also depends on the outcome of the payout. I don't want a lot, but a couple grand extra would be nice.

As it stands now, getting straight KBB retail value, I would get about 4-5k after the payoff. Also, the KBB retail is more than I could have paid for the car if I had taken the rebate over 0% financing. KBB retail is 15770 and I paid 16500 w/0% which would've been 15k w/ rebate. If you are worried about depreciation on the Mazda's, there's something for ya, a 2 year old car worth more than you paid.
