    I will take a really close look at the valve cover tonight. I am off of work for the next couple of days so I should have some time to look at it and hopefully at least diagnose the issue.

    Well these do have a pcv that by this age and mileage may be plugged up causing the pressure build up. Unfortunately the pcv is located in the oil separator under the intake and the intake must be removed first. What you can do is the pcv valve clean the area and retest for leaks but man rear mains are never a problem on these I would bet it is coming from the valve cover and seeping down the block to the bellhousing and hence the oil burning smell. If it was just inside the bellhousing and dripping you wouldn't get that smell.

    We have seen a few but not many the 2.3l engine is pretty good overall, are you sure it is engine oil?
