What's with all these spammers these days?

What's going on with the latest explosion of spammers? I'm on most of the time and I hate seeing all these spammers and some are actually scammers too! They run scam sites. Anyways can I be a mod to deal with these spammers? I'm always on and most of the time I'm on when the spammers start spamming. I can stop them before they can spam more.

There comes a time in everyone's life when you have to take a radical decision. A decision that maybe it will change your life. Only when I think about it I feel an empty stomach.

Just kidding... I'm not a spammer. I just saw that one and it made me laugh, because it's so completely random in the context of the rest of the thread. I don't even want to click the link because I have no idea what it is. I don't want my computer to get herpes.

I've noticed a lot of spammers recently too. Is there a way to require entering those fancy words upon sign up? I thought the forums had something like that in place, but it's been years since I signed up. With all the spam flying around, it must be pretty easy to get an account.

edit: removed link to keep others from clicking.

Re: What's with all these spammers these days?

We have it set up right now that a new registered user has to be approved by a mod/admin. We've submitted a request to the site owners for captca (or whatever it's called) but no response that I recall.

The spammers you're seeing are usually older accounts that are being activated finally to spam. It's pretty bad the number of spambots that try to register. Overnight anywhere between 100-400 new accounts get put into the queue.

Basically, a simple challenge question at registration, something most forums have had for a decade, has taken weeks and weeks for the owners (AutoGuide) to implement. Every problem brought up in this subforum is a result of having zero cooperation from the owners of the site.

Re: What's with all these spammers these days?

Guys, trust me, I've sent many, emails addressing the spamming issue. When the site changed hands a few of my admin rights went with it, so all I can really do is continue to send in the request to get something done. It's really frustrating, but they are said to be working on a fix.

Whats with all these spammers these days

drachefly wrote:Spammers want most of all to contact people with less sense than caesar salad. Er, less sense than a caesar salad has, not that they have more caesar salad than sense.

Also, cue spammers replying to this thread in 3… 2… 1…
