Yep, we were down a ton on the 11th, again :(

We still haven't figured out what the heck is going on. It's getting to the point where the only remaining guess I have is to take the long punt and buy a new server... but I have no reason to think that will help.

Is there any possibility it could be someone intentionally hacking the site?

I suppose it's possible, but I mean, if I hacked a site, I'd just go delete everything... not cause all these weird problems. We've also added a lot of firewalls and such since all these problems started.

We will not lose data (barring anything unexpected). What we attempted with that 2-week loss ended up being apparently useless, so we won't try anything like that again.

Will updating to SMF 2.0 RC3 resolve issues with RC1?

Well, we see no evidence that these problems are caused by SMF. That being said, I definitely want to get up to RC3... in fact, I came home straight from work today to work on exactly that. But then all these problems started and I got no work done on it.

What's so confusing is our server and our code base hadn't changed since last summer, and now suddenly we're having problems?

That sounds like an excellent idea. Either that, or it may be time to call in some consultants
