Change status of post from "read" only at the end

Problem: I am looking over posts on the Mazda3forums website while at work and my boss approaches my desk. I close the Internet Explorer window, talk to my boss for a few minutes, make sure he is out of sight, open Internet Explorer, and type in www.mazda3forums.com to find that all of the posts that used to be "unread" are now marked "read" even though I never read them.

I was hoping that there was some way around this, like refreshing all of the posts to "read" at 3:00am (dependent on the user's timezone) after the user visited the site during the previous 24 hours. That way, a user can visit the site multiple times in one day and still be able to find and read all of the "unread" posts from that day. If the user goes for days without visiting the site, then none of the threads posted to would change from "unread" until the user visits the site again (like it does now).

Site Admin actually is not working on it I'd love to be able to change it, but no idea how I'd do so. Even with the way that I want to change it, the one section you were in would mark everything as read.

Also, if you've only closed it for a few minutes everything shouldn't be makred read, I don't believe... I think you have to be gone for over 5 mins.

Nope, I just tested it. Checked out the main page to see almost all of the cars with their lights on, closed my browser, opened it again, clicked on Mazda3forums (in my favorites ), typed in my work's firewall username and password, and the site opened with all the cars with their lights off. 15 seconds, max.

Does the same thing happen at home?
That could be a fluke of your works network.
