Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Alex.
I bought a Mazda 3 less than 2 years ago, really nice car. It’s a 2008 Mazda 3 2.3L Hatchback with 165k miles.
About two months ago transmission started to give me some problems. It’s starting to go bad.
I had the TCM rebuilt but that didn’t fix my problem.
To make this short, I found one transmission for about $800, but im not trying to spend too much money to fix my car. I love this car and don’t wanna let it go.
Now, I can get a transmission from a 2011 Mazda 3 2.0L for $150 which is really cheap.
Does anyone know this will fit my 2.3L?

Both are FS5AEL transmissions. You could physically swap it in. The only differences may be internal such as gear ratios and line pressures. I read on one forum that a guy with a Mazda 5 swapped in a Mazda 3 2.0 trans(both FS5AEL) and he just had to swap TCM's and the mount. He stated that he compared part numbers on the internal parts and they were the same. I suggest you do this at online Mazda parts sites and verify. If all matches up, swap away. That is a good price on the '11 unit.
