New Mazda owner - Hello

Picked up with 08 a few days ago. 96,000 miles with a 5 speed. Was specifically looking for a manual. Getting harder and harder to find what you want when that's the criteria. Talking to dealers they seemed to not understand why I wanted a manual. So I didn't talk to the ones any more that showed me auto tans. lol

It's got a little hail on the roof and the hood (unclaimed) but not too bad. Runs great. When I bought it there was this chip spliced into the MAF sensor and a K&N air filter added to the end of where the stock airbox should be. Needless to say I went to a local junkyard and got rid of the Hot air intake and put the OEM back on. I mean... 2.3 with a big filter like that? lol

Looking forward to learning more stuff about the car. Changing out the trans fluid to the motorcraft ford manual trans gear oil today. A little notchy into 3rd on this gearbox but shifts fine and clutches great.

Car came from Texas so no rust. Little oxidization but can't complain on a 10y/o car. Had to buy it from the dealer so probably paid a little more than PP but I wanted it

Regarding your transmission, the unit in my 2009 was notchy and would occasionally grind when going into gear, I took a page from the Honda community and went with the ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified; my car felt like it had a brand new transmission in it.

I have had good luck with Redline in some other cars. I also read somewhere that the Motorcraft stuff was formulated to use in rally cars in Europe specifically for this similar issue. I found this on Amazon (Genuine Ford Fluid XT-M5-QS Full Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid). Worth a shot. I have never used the ACDelco but have also heard good stuff about it. So many options!

I also noticed that I should probably change my motor mounts. The passenger side one has a tear and probably could be replaced. That might help as well. I notice over harder bumps int he road I can feel it more and I can also hear that prone to failure engine mount (I think).

Oh well - this should be a fun car. I like to commute in vehicles that are fun to drive. Not boring this one fits the bill for now!

first mazda

HI, I just bought my first mazda a couple of days ago. ( 2012 Mazda 3) got a pretty good deal I think. Ive noticed a couple small issues after the purchase though. I'm in love with the car and how it drives. Would love to learn a little about mazdas and more about cars in general on here.

Slightly OT but which one is prone to failure? I've let the dealership do most of the oil changes on my '12 2.5 and last time they told me the rear-most mount was leaking fluid and needed replacing. Different gen so it could be different than yours, I suppose.
