Reminiscent of Y2K years 04’ 3 Hatch

Ah, what a great 7-8 years it has been. And hopefully will continue to be.

I bout my 2004 Mazda3 hatchback 2.3 5 speed in 2011 after a major car accident as a passenger the prior year. I drooled over this car as a teenager, knowing it’s practicality and fun attributes.

What a delight it was to finally get my hands on it. I landed a slightly used at 116k Miles beauty in Silver with a custom air intake at the 17” wheels with street tires. It was used from a student who had recently been accepted to an out of state college, and I bought it for just under 7k at the time.

She ran great, no issues what so ever. The prior owner had spilled coffee on the front window control panel, and so you had to know the right way to maneuver the front driver windows switch in order for it to properly roll up(was the only drivers side nuacence), but every car has its quirks- and to this day it still works.

She still runs like a champ 7 years and double her life later. 15 years old and the only things that have gone wrong are a broken pulley on the way out of state ($12 part) and keeping up with General maintinence. I will say these cars are known for electrical issues, which I have no short of.

I did instal an transponder for my iPhone, but it hasn’t been a huge interference in operation. Now adays she shows her age, coming close to 200k- the motherboard is seeing some struggles.

I bought this car is Seattle and had it in eastern Washington for about 3 years before I drove it to Nashville. At that time, she started to get fussy with the custom intake and started throwing a CEL. Countless home and shop repairs led me to believe it was a dummy light. After three years in Nashville, i migrated further south to Miami, Fl. She still runs great. The electrical issues have worsened, but i take my chances. My running light relay is giving out (which is soldered into the main board- and if you change it, you lose your key fob). And so i take a chance of whether my running and night lights will stay on at night without having to forcefully bang the dashboard to get them to click on again (this can be frequent or infrequent depending on the moisture and heat in the air.) in most cases she does okay and i can endure an hour or two in the dark.

Now it seems the driver airbag light is on, though i have heard that this is another dummy light. I took my car to the dealership but they turned me away stating that my VIN did not make the list for defective takata airbags tho the light still comes on. I attribute this to the motherboard giving out

She still runs, and that’s all I can be grateful for, keyless entry,power windows and cruise control in a manual ‘04’ in a bodyline that is still timeless? It’s all i can be greatful for in the years to come. Here’s to 100k more!!

Yay! Hello!


I've got a 2005 3 that's at 205,000 miles and still runs incredibly well. Airbag light is also on but that's it. Oh well. Love this car ... though the rust kills me. Despite the rust, it's still my baby and gets me to and from school with some fun along the way.
