Wink Shopping Mazdas

Hi all,

I have been on the market for a couple months for a $2000-$3000 car to daily. I currently daily a Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi, so 14 mpg on 89 octane isnt very nice on the wallet.

I had been searching for a project car/good candidate for a turbo or a car with oem turbo, but really in this price range its not worth the headaches. I would never want a turbo car with more than 80k on it, thats just a ticking time bomb. But I want something that I can put some work into and have it be worth it. I will still have my truck so I am not worried about major work and have the skill necessary to do everything myself.

Anyways I used to own a 1988 CRX that was completely built for Auto-x though I never actually raced it. Anyways I really miss that car. It was low on power but it was definitely the funnest car I have ever driven. Unfortunately being in New England it is near impossible to find a CRX that isnt ruined. So that brought me to the next best lightweight/handling car, the MIATA!

However I am searching for a good daily and a miata doesn't really do many things well except cornering and putting a smile on your face. I talked to the guys over at the miata forums and they pointed me towards the mazda 3 which I hadn't even considered. After a little browsing on craigslist I found that the mazda 3 can be had for pretty cheap. So now I am here seeking advice from you guys as I continue my search for a fun daily.

I have started a more specific shopping thread here:
