Question CLOSED: Looking to Buy a Salvaged MS3. Need help knowing what to look for.

Hi! So I'm new to the forums, but don't have an MS3 yet. I'm looking to purchase a particular 08 MS3 that I found online. It was listed as a salvage title that has since been rebuilt and has a couple issues. I can't tell from the vehicle history report that I purchased what the incident involved, just that it was salvaged and was rebuilt. The report I purchased was NOT a CarFax report, though, and I'm not sure if those are more detailed or not. In my limited experience, they aren't but I'm still new to this game. The MS3 I found also seems to have a defective Bose head unit that isn't working at the moment. I haven't been able to test drive/inspect the vehicle in person yet, but I would like to know what to look for what I do finally get around to seeing it.

I was wondering if anyone could help point me in the direction of a thread that describes how to troubleshoot head unit issues and/or a thread with a list of areas where prospective MS3 buyer should pay special attention to when inspecting the potential candidate either in person or at a shop. I'm fairly novice at what to look for in potential issues, so I'm probably going to try to get it to a shop so they can properly inspect things like the motor mount issue I've read about on these forums.

I'm going to be hunting around the forums, but this forum is absolutely MASSIVE compared to the forums for my other car, so it's a little intimidating to hunt around for info for me here. Any shortcuts to useful threads/posts would be greatly appreciated.

While I'm out soliciting info from M3F community:
  1. I would like to know if you would buy a rebuilt MS3 and how you would go about trying to figure out what happened to it.
  2. Would you try to troubleshoot/repair the stock Bose head unit, or just replace it with something else?
THANKS!

Unhappy CLOSED!

I guess we can close this thread out. After spending a lot of money on vehicle history reports, I found out that the car I was looking into had been involved in a second accident since it'd been registered with a rebuilt salvage title. The combination of structural uncertainty any my distance from purchase has turned me away from the car, but a MS3 is still really high on my want to own list. I test drove a 2012 MS3 at a CarMax and thought it was awesome. I test drove it at night, and didn't know that the newer MS3's came with accent lights, which is pretty sweet. And 263 HP is a blast use.

I bet I'll be back on here sooner or later.
