Repeat Mazda owner

Hi everone,

I'm currently operating a 2004 3 2.3l 5-door that i've owned for 4 years now. Prior to that i owned a MX6.

I've recently joined this forum to get some technical information and to ask some questions.

My car is in bad shape at the moment. My main catalytic converter was so blocked from burning oil that it cause excess exhaust gases to return into the intake manifold via the EGR valve and actually burned a hole through the plastic intake right below the TB. I'll add some pictures in my gallery. I just finished removing the Intake manifold and exhaust manifold (super PITA ) i can actually see oil running down multiple intake and exhaust valves.

I haven't done a compression test but suffice to say i would assume that the rings are not in good shape. I don't have the money to purchase new rings, pistons and take the engine out to have the cylinders bored so what im going to do now is replace the valve seals with the head on, replace the exhaust manifold/cat combo, delete the second non-monitored second cat and plastic weld the intake manifold.

The question I haven't been able to find on any forum is if the 2004 2.3 actually uses multiple friction washers on the crank or not. once I get approved to post in other locations i'll start a thread.

Thanks for having me,
Matt
