What excuses have you used to get out of speeding tickets (court)?

As the title states, I'm curious to know what excuses (legitimate or not, as long as they work) people have used to get out of speeding tickets, or at least minimize the fine.

I've got 2 court dates coming up, so I'll share mine as soon as that's over, or if I come up with something before hand.

So first: State the situation
Second: The "excuse".

One of my examples (we'll see soon enough if it works).

The Situation

Just merged from an exit ramp and i'm headed towards a small tunnel (inclination goes down then back up). So there are two car in the right lane (2 lanes) going slowly. I say fuck it, and decide to overtake. Naturally there being a tunnel I might have given more gas then I should have. However, it being downhill, the car would accelerate faster than normal.

Now usually, by the time I get out of the tunnel, I'm already doing the speed limit so no harm done. But this time, the fuckers tagged my right at the bottom. 81 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. That's 3 demerit points and 197$ ticket.

Solution/Excuse: Look at the specs of any radar gun, they are only accurate to +/- 1km/h (or mph). That means they can't actually prove I was doing 81 rather than 80. Being tagged at 80 puts me in a different bracket, resulting in a loss of 2 demerit points, and subsequently a smaller fine. Maybe I'll find another legitimate argument I can use to knock off more points, or just ask for a "favor" from the prosecutor. I'll update this at the end of the month.

I'd like to hear your versions/stories as well!

Talk to the Crown Prosecutor and ask him/her if you could pay the fine without demarits.

If you have a clean driving record you can also use that to your defence. You could even mention that you would be happy if it was 80 in a 50 for the lesser demerit points.

As far as my stories go, every time I get pulled over I get a ticket lol. Seems like they always give me a deal and knock it down further then what my speed actually is. A few pointers I have picked up/thought of as well as what my good friend likes to see (who is a cop) are these.

-don't dive into your glovebox right away for your license and registration
-turn on your interior light especially at night with tint
-place your hands where they can see them like on top of the steering wheel
-remember traffic stops is one of the most dangerous things cops do if you can make their life easier hopefully they make yours.

Things to keep in mind
-he's doing his job
-he wants to make it home to his family
-if your an asshole chances are he will be an asshole too

If you can make his life/job easier then he can make your life easier too.

Yeah it seems my best best would be to argue or negotiate with the prosecutor

I Will be the first one to tell you. That you do not ever own up to that ticket man! The second you admit fault. There is your case out the window. Ask them to prove how fast you were going. And than bring up your knowledge of how a radar gun works. If you want to get real touchy. Ask for the officer who wrote the ticket. Chances are he has not shown up to court. The case will be dismissed.

Ask for documentation that the radar gun was calibrated. This has worked twice for me. I also will show up to court and hope they don't appear - that hasn't worked yet.

Two more points and I lose my license. Answer was to get a lawyer on retainer.
