Project cars

Last few weeks I can't stop thinking of a project car... I know right? Just got my Speed3 wtf is wrong with me.

Just every time I think I want to do something awesome like a big turbo, "FWD" pops into my head. It's like I'm hitting a wall. It just pisses me off that this car has so much potential to be great, but they FWD limits it's ability to achieve it. Don't get my wrong, the speed3, if done right, can be an absolutely amazing car. But I still want that "tiny bit" more.

My question to you guys, what do you think would be an awesome project car?
I'm talking about big turbo, mean and fast. (I can't see a turbo miata with 400+whp being feasible as it will fucking take off to the moon)

Cars that come to mind:

-R33 (R34 if you can even find a LHD model) - As long as it's 15 years old you can import it into Canada
-S14
-240sx
-Supra
-NSX
-RX7
-Impreza 2.5 RS
-Evo
-STI

AWD to me seems far more appealing than RWD, and then I'm sort of anal about 5 vs 6 speeds (6 speed transmissions are far more capable when it comes to handling more power). I end up cringing when i see "5 speed"

Go ahead and post up suggestions/dreams/whatever the hell you want!

I like older sleepers, 240 z, nissian 510, toyota e86 etc. I would love to do a modern drive train in one, retro custom.

Dynotronics tuned< the best! Vibrant exhaust. MSDS header . Injen CAI . BSD. Gp werks baffle plate. VTCS removed.

Fusion Sport! It's AWD, V6 and a 6 speed.. Auto

But really you can't go wrong with any car you mentioned. A couple neighbours of mine have STi's and I gotta say they're pretty awesome.

Opinions:

AWD vs RWD? (Assume "too much" power)

I am actually tossing around doing a 94 Subaru impreza with an H6. Twin turbo that and damn!!!!!! And I would do AWD over RWD any day.

RWD >>>>> AWD in my opinion. But that's because I like the rawness of RWD, and it's challenges. Way more fun. AWD is too boring.

Why rule out a Miata? You could build a Miata to beat any of those cars for way cheaper. A 300 whp Miata is FAST. My buddy has an LS1 swapped Miata and it is absolutely incredible.

Not to be all fanboy on Miatas, it's not that I think Miatas are the best becuase I have one. I bought a Miata because I truly believe that it's the cheapest way to have fun. I have a 200 whp Miata and it's seriously fun.

I'll just leave you with this..

Yeah the power to weight in a built Miata is pretty awesome. Plus they can corner!

You could do an LS swap in a 240 as well.. Or even a big turbo set up.

My issue with RWD is once you get to a certain output level, say north of 500hp, traction becomes a huge issue. Just look at the new M4, if you aren't careful, there goes your grip.

I guess the main argument to be made is a skillful driver in a rwd car would beat an awd car. But I still believe that, when the rwd car begins to lose grip, the awd one this manages to grip and pull through the corner.

One day I will own an RX7- FD and/or a 300 zx TT. Two of my dream cars, but I would import both since ones near me are ragged on and good 300zx's go for north of 15 grand.

As for RWD vs FWD, I would take RWD since it is easier to work on/more reliable/lighter/cheaper etc...
