The Great Tablet Debate

So I mentioned this in the OMM thread, but... I'm trying to figure out what tablet is the best all-around tablet. I know this is a highly subjective question, so I'm really just looking for people's opinion.

As a quick point, I'm asking because I just got a new job with a lot of travel, so I'm looking for a "personal computer" (tablet) to take with me as something to play with on the plane and in hotels.

My thoughts:
  • I want a full-sized tablet. My wife has the original Google Nexus 7. It's too small for me. I've played with the iPad Mini with same results -- too small.
  • I am not attached to Apple products. I have an Android phone (and love it and don't plan to buy an iPhone). I have an old iPod Video (like 8 years old) and a Nano or Shuffle or something that has been with me every time I go to the gym (so... it's still in it's original packaging).
  • I like the idea of the universal nature of non-Apple products -- use any external HDD as a back-up drive, interchangeable cables with my Android phone, any keyboard/mouse I want, etc.
  • However, I'm not AGAINST Apple, per se. I know iPads are built really well, have very few kinks, and are compatible with everything (car audio, TVs, even treadmills have iPod/iPad jacks now). But there is a price to pay when you go Apple, and you continue to shell out the extra bucks for all of their proprietary hardware (keyboard/mouse, external HDDs, etc).
I'm currently thinking of going with the 32GB iPad Air, but open to other suggestions, comments, etc on it or other products.

Ready, set, go!

They're all good, in terms of productivity i think the surface is the best choice. My two cents

Haha. Thanks.

For those that see this and are curious, dahoov has used the iPad and Nexus10, and both were good. His friend just bought the Surface, and thinks it is great.

The Surface Pro 2 (Surface 2 Pro?) is neither a good tablet nor a good laptop. Just throwing that out there.

If this forum had a rep system, you would be positively repped for this post.

For what it is maybe its decent, but I'd never get one. Not that im the biggest fan of tablets I guess. I have a super old Asus netbook I "inherited" from my dad, and the smallest Samsung chrome book for aprox $250. Love that thing.

For the price you get so much more than an iPad.
  1. Octo-core processor
  2. 32GB internal storage + expandable up to an addition 64GB
  3. Dual screen multi-tasking capability
  4. Since you already have Android then integrating the 2 will be a breeze
  5. 299ppi vs. the iPad's 264ppi
  6. The S-Pen features are great.
I don't have one yet so I can't mention what I would change. I have the previous version as well as an iPad 4 and iPad Mini so my judgement is totally un-biased. The Note 10.1 is better for my day-to-day, especially with me having a Samsung Android phone.
