Who shoots what? Home defense, or competitive?
Since before my military days, I've always been around firearms, being introduced to them by my father fairly young. Safety first, and he insisted his sons know how to handle themselves to protect their families. What he didn't teach me, the Army did.
While in the military, other than boring M-16's, I did qualify on the M-2 .50 cal (love it!!!), M-60, and the M249 S.A.W.
For home/personal defense, I keep a Springfield XD45 4" next to the bedside. It's all stock, and I suppose at one points I'll do a trigger job and maybe work on the magwell a little bit. It gets the job done, and I keep a high powered LED flashlight in the same drawer. Currently have Hornady 230 grain JHP in it.
My other gun, the one I mainly take to the range, is a Kimber TLE/RLII. Out of the box, it's got a full length guide rod, night sights, extended beavertail, the cleanest 1911 trigger I've ever felt, and on a sandbag it groups very tightly with 200-230 grain ball ammo. I keep it loaded with Hornady Zombie Max (gag gift that actually shoots fairly well, and makes really nice exit holes). I installed Crimson Trace laser grips and a Surefire S200 rail light some years ago, and more recently put Kimber's extended magwell on it. Yes, I spent some money on it over the years, but it is still the gun that more of my friends comment is the best shooting handgun they're ever held.
I'll post up some pics when I get home this evening. What about everyone else here? BTW, if you're just adamantly opposed to handguns, please find another thread to populate lest I mercilously flame you
