The Mazda3forums.com gun thread (If you're against guns, keep outta my thread.)

Who shoots what? Home defense, or competitive?

Since before my military days, I've always been around firearms, being introduced to them by my father fairly young. Safety first, and he insisted his sons know how to handle themselves to protect their families. What he didn't teach me, the Army did.

While in the military, other than boring M-16's, I did qualify on the M-2 .50 cal (love it!!!), M-60, and the M249 S.A.W.

For home/personal defense, I keep a Springfield XD45 4" next to the bedside. It's all stock, and I suppose at one points I'll do a trigger job and maybe work on the magwell a little bit. It gets the job done, and I keep a high powered LED flashlight in the same drawer. Currently have Hornady 230 grain JHP in it.

My other gun, the one I mainly take to the range, is a Kimber TLE/RLII. Out of the box, it's got a full length guide rod, night sights, extended beavertail, the cleanest 1911 trigger I've ever felt, and on a sandbag it groups very tightly with 200-230 grain ball ammo. I keep it loaded with Hornady Zombie Max (gag gift that actually shoots fairly well, and makes really nice exit holes). I installed Crimson Trace laser grips and a Surefire S200 rail light some years ago, and more recently put Kimber's extended magwell on it. Yes, I spent some money on it over the years, but it is still the gun that more of my friends comment is the best shooting handgun they're ever held.

I'll post up some pics when I get home this evening. What about everyone else here? BTW, if you're just adamantly opposed to handguns, please find another thread to populate lest I mercilously flame you.

I shoot for fun whenever i go to the states and see a firing range. And it is lots of fun.
So far I've shot some dinky pistol, a sig sauer 9mm and an Uzi. The pistols really make you appreciate how difficult it is to aim accurately. Then you watch hollywood movies and see people shooting other people from huge distances, while running, with a pistol. Uhhuh, right.

I carry an lc9. I'm picking up a gen 3 glock 26 in a few weeks and on the look for an mp45 compact. But living in the shitty state of CT I get screwed on most of the good stuff. Hopefully before the end of the year will be getting a 1911. Not set on what ye tho. I have had a Colt m1991a1 officers model in 45 and a Springfield ultra compact v10 ported barrel, model also in 45. And had a shield in 9mm and an sr9c. Sold most of them and regret all now lol.

To a certain extent, but I'm well trained enough with a handgun that I'd rather have that than a shotgun.

In Navy bootcamp in 2002, we did quals with a beretta 9mm iirc and a shotgun. Couldnt do live fire day as i was on vicodin for my yanked wisdom teeth. Worked on jets during enlistment, so never carried.

I have a russian M44 rifle (7.62x54R) and a Sig Sauer P226 9mm. Havent gone to the range in a while, but the sig is accurate, nice tight groupings. Had a rubber grip on it, but it was pulling left, so I got rid of it. Took my mom shooting with the sig, she did great for her first time ever shooting a gun.

What's a good gun for a total beginner. I heard that you can buy a. 38 special and be able to use that same gun to fire 357 rounds. But you can buy cheaper. 38 rounds for practice. I would be interested in that type of gun. Can anyone recommend a nice, beginners hand gun (revolver preferred)? Thanks.
