wrx or mazdaspeed3?

Ok a few months ago i posted on getting a sti since my mazda3 payment will be finished this fall but i've been doing lot of research and see that i should just get the mazdaspeed 2012 or wrx 2012 hatch. STI is a great car but i can use that extra money for savings and I don't think im going to be racing anytime soon.
I survived 4 years of driving a non turbo charged car and feel that i've earned this patience . I initially got the 3 because I wasn't really into cars and was 3-4k cheaper the ms3 and better gas mileage. But after driving it and modifying the car, i got more appreciation for cars and excitement of making it your own. Both cars I test drove and are really fun to drive and with style. But some factors im looking at are
price (i give to mazdaspeed)
performance
overall reliability
looks (i give to wrx. which has same body as the sti now)
modding (i give to mazdaspeed as i've read wrx engine bay is a pain to get mods on.)

So since car is a big purchase and doing my research i'm wondering based on your knowledge of the two cars.. any other insights i should know about (pros/cons) which will help the decision process?
Hope no bias since i'm on the mazda forum.. but i know there's lot of car experts who give out sound advice! Oh yeah extra points for mazda since my 3 has been a great ride

What? Since when do looks and chassis go together?

As far as modding goes, every engine bay will have tight spaces, so that's a mute point. If you don't believe me, just search for the turbo inlet installation.

Performance wise, that depends on your thirst for power. I think under 350hp, both cars are just as capable, and I think the MS3 will be more fun because of the chaotic nature of the FWD with gobs of power. But if you want big power, I'd go with the WRX.

Subaru sucks. Not saying as a Mazda fanboy (I've never owned one), but as someone that has owned a Subie lately. Buy the MS3 and call it a day.

Re: wrx or mazdaspeed3?

Having owned the following.... 05 WRX, 08 MS3, 11 MS3....might say something

I have yet to check out the latest from subby, but I didn't even bother because I was so disgusted by the quality of my 05 wrx. It was honestly the cheapest pos car I have ever owned. Paint sucked, windows sucked, doors felt crappy, seats sucked, stereo sucked, etc etc etc... Had to replace two o2 sensors within the 1st two months of owning it, alarm died after one month, and the straw that broke the camels back...clutch was toast after 5k. Now mind you, I never raced the thing, or modified it in any way.
I did enjoy the performance aspect for sure, AWD was amazing to have in Buffalo winters, and was a fun car to drive around, but the issues I had completely turned me away from ever wanting a subby again.

Now with the MS3, it is by no means a luxury car, but for the same $$$ everything was miles ahead of my old subby. I loved it so much that I went ahead and got the 2011 a couple of months ago, and love this one more than my 08. Quality is right where I expect it for a ~$25000 car. Performance is right up there with the WRX, sans the AWD, but I don't miss it that much. I definitely drove my MS3 wayyy harder than the wrx and had 0 issues with it.

Oh this again... Test drive them both, buy the one you prefer. You should also check out the Focus ST if it's available at the time of your next car purchase.

Re: wrx or mazdaspeed3?

I LOVE SUBARU end of story. But the thing is is that their interior looks nice but unlike mazdas GREAT interior Subies feels very cheap inside. I was going to either get a mazdaspeed3 or a 2011 wrx hatch or sedan. It was VERY clear to me after test driving. Which was better. I hoped back in my 2007 mazdaspeed3 GT and happily went home. Subaru opended a new dealer 1mile from my house. Went to speak to the owner. He let me test drive the new sti. Nah. Im sticking with my speed 3. Speed 3 is so much more fun lemme tell you. And everything feels right. Looks great. Drives great. Feels great. Of course i like the awd but fwd is alot alot of fun haha. I say get a used gen 1 mazdaspeed3 with a couple thousand miles and mod it out. Its so much better looking then gen 2 and inside is sexy in the gen 1 GT.
