FML: Summoned for jury duty
I got a summons in the mail to serve for jury duty the other day. Not a big deal, it's my civic duty and all, and I'm curious about the whole process. I'm actually kind of hoping I get picked for it. However, there is one catch, I don't think my employer pays me if I serve on a jury. If I get stuck in a trial that lasts more than a few days, that could put a hurt on me financially. And the pay you get from the city is laughable, at $12 a day. Congrats, I make that in half an hour.
So I'm a bit torn, I kind of want to do it, but there's a chance I could be missing out on a few thousand dollars in pay if the trial takes a while. Which would blow.
Granted, if I don't get paid, it's pretty damn easy to get out of jury duty, you basically have to be an idiot not to be able to get out of it.
So I'm kind of torn, do the civic duty, or get paid?
