brush with death

Just wanted everyone to share their experiences if you've had a brush with death that's changed ir life or made u slow down even if it was a friend of yours.
Today my brother was having a little fun in his Buick riviera we've been working on. after I got a bad feeling in my stomach he calls me and says get here now I flipped the riviera. After going over a dirt hill at 80 he lost control and flipped his Car.he crushed the roof in destroyed the radiator tranny and rear axle. He's lucky to have walked away with nothing but a scratch in his elbow. My friend was riding with him in the back seat and was also injury free if he had been in the passenger seat he would have been dead. I don't beliv in much but an angel mustve been watching over him today.

Re: brush with death

On May 5 1986, at approximately 7:15-7:30 pm I found myself sliding down the road on my ass at 100+ mph. Seems the old Water Buffalo got a but twitchy beyond 130 mph. . .

Anyhoo, as I looked up and saw the trees rushing by on either side of the road it occurred to me, "I could die right here". On the upside, when I was diagnosed with a 9 cm rectal tumour this January my earlier experience left me pretty much immune to the whole, "Oh my God, I have cancer, I'm going to die" hysteria some people might have gone through. I was able to calmly slide into "Let's get the job done" mode re treatment and I'm hoping my final surgery will be done by the end of November and what is left of my colon will back in use and under control for Christmas dinner.

Alcohol was never an ism for me, just a hobby, and drugs never entered the picture but I can relate to your point - 1987 is kind of a blur, as is Q1 1990.

What if you don't die? I'll continue to drive normal, not for fear of death, but for my understanding of how shitty life can be. The vision of a 30 year old drooling retard in a diaper, does not appeal to me.

Hell, being a 42 year old in a diaper with no bladder control didn't appeal to me in June and July. I got over it, just as I will when I go through it again next month as I re-train my bowels. It doesn't mean I won't have fun and it doesn't mean I need to drive like I did when I was a teenager to have fun. If driving like an asshole is all someone has to make them feel good then they aren't really having fun, they're just trying to distract themselves from that fact. Ditto for alcohol, as I realized 20 years ago in a fit of drunken boredom.

But your point is a good one - fun is only fun until someone gets hurt.
