Stationwagon v. hatchback v. crossover

I see no difference between the 3. The word crossover came about recently. It's a good way for automakers to sell wagons w/o calling them wagons. The American consumer bit and they took off. So, is there any difference between the 3? Nope. There are some exceptions...

90's Fox mustang = hatchack

A mazda 3 hatch = station wagon.

Prove me wrong.

Re: Stationwagon v. hatchback v. crossover

Although you could put a MZ3 hatch in the category of a wagon, I don't see it as a station wagon. It's shorter and sportier looking than a true station wagon, so I say it is different, although there really is no difference between that hatch and a wagon. I see your point of a mustang/rsx/240sx kind of hatch and agree that is a true hatchback. I also see crossovers as being larger than a hatch or wagon. Usually higher off the ground and larger, like an suv but fwd.

I have no Fusion. I have a Miata.

I need a new sig.

crossover is the same as a station wagon? really? the ford edge is called a crossover. or do you mean more like a Venza or accord crosstour? there's distinctive size and cargo room variations between those 3 categories.

I guess ford mustang = Sebring.

Re: Stationwagon v. hatchback v. crossover

I think it pretty much depends on personal opinion, at least between hatch and wagon. Crossovers are completely different though. They are more like small SUVs than cars. The CX-7 is a small crossover, and look at the Venza and Accord Crosstour. Both are pretty high off the ground and bigger vehicles.

As for wagon v hatch. My opinion is that a wagon is going to be a lot longer, and the roofline is going to be more parallel to the ground than a hatch.

Since cars lengths vary quite a bit, I think a good distiguishing characteristic in this case is the window on the back quarter. If it's nearly as long as the rest of the windows, that's a good indication of a wagon.

I would consider a mz3 to be a hatch, where a dodge magnum is more of a wagon.

Re: Stationwagon v. hatchback v. crossover

By DMV standard my 1991 Fullsize bronco was considered a wagon. Just because it's taller doesn't make it not a wagon. The edge is DEF. a wagon. The flex even more so. Both are based off the same platform.

Re: Stationwagon v. hatchback v. crossover

I have to dissagree with you.

The fox body Mustangs are fastbacks. The Mazda6 hatch is a fastback. The integra, Corvette, Scion TC, all fastbacks, at least that's what I'd rather have them called.

The 3 hatch is just that, a hatchback. It has C & D pillars, so you could feasable call it a wagon. However, I'd call it a mini-wagon. The overall length of the MZ3 Hatch is shorter than the sedan. If it were equal to or longer than the sedan, it'd be a wagon. The best example of this that I can think of is the first generation Ford Focus. They sold it as a sedan, hatch and wagon. The hatch is very similar to the MZ3 hatch. The wagon, has a longer appearance and large rear side mirrors.

They don't sell a 3 wagon.
