FJ Cruiser v. Xterra

May trade in my milan soon. Maybe in a month maybe a year..gotta look into it. I'm torn. I want another SUV but there's very few left on the market. I'm thinking another xterra. FJ is nice..4runner is ok but a tad pricey.

FJ looks big on the outside, but not that big on the inside. How about the new Explorer?

Xterra.

If you like having a stock vehicle capable of some interesting offroading, it will definitely satisfy your urge.

No more FWD. If the 2010 Explorer was still out at the time..I'd consider it. It's hardly an SUV anymore and they are too expensive. I had an 04 Xterra which was my love..FJ's are cool looking though.

Have you looked into Jeeps? They are more than capable on and off the road, if I was into SUV's I would easily pick up the new Commander or Cherokee.

Re: FJ Cruiser v. Xterra

Grand cherokee is over priced. It's also based off an Mercedes ML which I don't like. Commander is going away and it's also over priced. I'm not a fan of Chrysler. Until they get their shit together I won't even consider one. Also, I've been into wheeling since about 1998 and I can assure you a commander isn't more capable than an FJ or Xterra. It's not all about capability though..I just like the looks and aftermarket support of the FJ. It's also got a great reliability and safety record and I can get one with a locker, etc all for 28,000.

Re: FJ Cruiser v. Xterra

I can't see an FJ being a good car to tote a baby around in. A little difficult to load/unload a car seat, etc.

An Xterra or Pathfinder would be a decent choice, although I hate Nissan for their serious quality issues.

I made an account on the FJ forums to ask the question specifically. They all said the clam shell door actually makes it easier.

My friend has one, I don't really see how that's possible. (Although he doesn't have any kids)

I'm just not a fan of those cars in general as the visibility is beyond awful and it has less passenger and cargo room than the average compact car.

Re: FJ Cruiser v. Xterra

Except for my first car which was an escort, I've had a wranger, bronco, blazer, xterra, and now this. You can see why I'd like another truck. I don't like crossovers They are for me. There are so little choices of an actual truck based SUV out there now. I'm kind of limited. I like my explorer but it's a work truck and it's filthy.
