Building a race car- Help me choose

I am going to be building an oval car for my local short track with a buddy of mine. The category is focused on low cost and thus the cars are essential stock 4 cylinder cars (non-turbo). It's the X-Cars at the Waterford Speedbowl. Saturns and Neons seem to be pretty popular. We would be looking for something that could be found for a few hundred dollars and has a good power/weight ratio. Any advice on the best makes/models/years to look for would be appreciated.

i would find something rwd if you can. expecially if your running dirt. see if you can find a fiero but seriously a miata makes a mean little scca car so i would guess it would make a good track car and there is tons of add ons in the aftermarket.

either that or a fiesta or escort or contour the escort gt's were pretty fast

Re: Building a race car- Help me choose

are you not allowed to get anything other than a 4 cylinder? because you could easily find some POS buick with a v8 in it for a couple hundred dollars....power to weight wouldnt be bad at all if you stripped as much weight out of it as you could.

That sounds like a fun and different option. Based on the wikipedia page there were a ton of different engines for the old proteges. Any specific model type that I can know had the 165hp engine?

Would be great but a convertible is a no-no.

Is this track paved or dirt?

I never forget a face, but for you, I'll make an exception!
