Really? Is that where your descendents were originally from?

Nope, just a random trip we took. People were very friendly and architecture was great (in Hungary at least, Romania looks like it never bucked communism). I also like going to places that aren't flooded with American tourists. Nothing against my countrymen, but places popular with Americans usually turn out to be horrible tourist traps.

Romania still seems communist, architecurally?
I agree with staying away from the standard tourist traps. MY favorite trip was a week in Paris staying 2 blocks off the Sienne in the Latin Quarters ( 2 minute walk across the river from the Louvre) followed by 2 weeks in the father-in-laws house in Bodrum, Turkey. What an amazing country Turkey is though!

Yep, Bucharest did at least. To be fair, the outskirts of Budapest also were littered with Soviet age apartment blocks.

Turkey's on our list of places we'd like to go. Although we're likely going to do a Pacific Rim trip next year. Have a friend in Hong Kong I need to visit, then probably Singapore and then to visit another friend in Kuala Lumpur.

CAN I COME?!
We're thinking maybe Thailand next fall or back to Turkey, not sure.
Just wish we had friends living overseas we could bum a couch or a cot off of once in a while.
