Had an accident...need advice! OP UDATED w/ PICTURES

*first off, if this is in the wrong section, mods please move...not sure where to post this exactly*

ok, well like the title states, I had an accident earlier this morning....a pretty bad one and I need some advice (I know this won't substitute for legal advice). Although I have concerns about the actual crash, my biggest concern is that upon immediate impact, not one airbag deployed and if things would have gone worse, not sure I would be here right now typing to you all. I essentially hit a guardrail head on doing 75-85 after I lost control when I swerved to avoid a car in front of me that slammed his brakes on purpose, ..after the first impact I spun out, rear ended the guardrail on the opposite side and went a good amount of yards before coming to a stop. I sustained no injuries, except a major headache and stiffness/soreness in my neck. ...what I want advice on is how exactly should I go about the airbag issue with Mazda since I know for a fact they should have been deployed and I must take that up with them. (when I post the pictures up later, you will agree). I read around the forums but couldn't find any airbag issues with the 2008 i touring models....any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: some pictures of crash..

Re: Had an accident...need advice!

I was pinballed on the freeway in my Jaguar and my bags did not go off. From the what I read it doesn't sound like you hit the guardrail head on. You would have had to head striaght into the rail and it sounds like you were sliding sideways and then impacted the guard rail. Not an expert on airbags, but the system is very sensitive to when they should and shouldn't deploy. There may not be an issue with the airbags. With my car they said that the impacts to the car (although hard) were not enough for the bags to deploy. Surprised me since the car was loaded with bags. Not syaing you shouldn't have it checked out, but it may not be a fault.

In the end glad to hear you were okay.

Re: Had an accident...need advice!

Im sorry to hear that and glad you are okay. I went side ways after I hit the guardrail. regardless though, it was a hard enough impact to where I feel they should have gone off....everything that was loose in the front of the car, flew towards the back window. my front end was completely ripped off, bumper in pieces everywhere and the engine sitting on the floor...

Thanks bro! ..me too. Im more happy that I was able to walk away from it, even though I will be honest that I am bummed out that the car's wrecked considering the time and money I put into it every weekend

Re: Had an accident...need advice!

lol ...he jumped onto the emergency lane, cut me off and slammed his brakes

haven't seen the report yet, trooper said give him a couple days to write as he gets everyone's statement. but yes it will, I made it known to him and the firefighters pointed it out as well. also have two witnesses that can confirm that they didn't deploy

Re: Had an accident...need advice!

damn dude, just glad to hear you're still breathing- thats the most important part.

Airbags are touchy things. We had a guy in his company pickup slam into a farmers ditch on a slight angle and just FUCKED the whole truck up snapped front axle and rolled over even and the bags didnt deploy. wierd stuff.

yes and no, I have a tow plate so the impact was where the original placement of the plate was....I have no idea where my plate ended up now that I think about it

thank you! ..it still really hasn't hit me how lucky I truly was...any more force or if the tires would have caught something and I could have easily gone into a roll. and it really is weird stuff but some fucked up weird stuff since they aren't going off on a head on impact
