What would you do? talk about track car and daily driver.

So i was having the usually drunk chat at the pub down the road...
What would you rather do.
Lets say that you can sell your car and do what you want.
You are still on a budget lets say, $20 000 (nice round number).

Would you rather buy the best sport car you afford and spend the little amount you have left on it.

Buy a mid level car, in which you can still have some fun in it, mod it a little bit if you want.
But you also get an 'older' sport car for cheap, and spend all you can on it and prep it has a dedicated track car (time attack, drift etc).

Or would you rather go with the cheaper older car, and spend all you got in it?

I am getting closer to the second option...
since i personally want to get into drifting, i think it is best to start with a cheaper car, that can get smashed, than having my only car damaged, or risking engine and drivetrain trouble.

I bought a Honda Civic a few weeks ago that I want to eventually use as my track car. The registration is good til November (I think) so I'll use it for work and keep my Fusion as my "weekend car" til then.

I've been looking into a track car. While it's obvious a Mercury Milan will never be a all out track car..I think I'd rather drive my milan wherever I have to go and pick up a Porsche 944 for the track. An all out track car should be caged, have fire suppression, etc. Not very practical for a trip to shop rite.

Re: What would you do? talk about track car and daily driver.

If ive got 20k to play with, id probably get a 350z and make some upgrades, get a second set of wheels/tires for track, and have a decent DD thatll run well on a track too

Re: What would you do? talk about track car and daily driver.

I wouldn't gamble with $ that I can't afford to loose. I wouldn't turbo a DD to the point that it can blow up, just for your racing hobby.

2004 Mazda 3i MTX: K&N Air Filter, Auxmod, ScanGauge II, Cruise Control, Fog Lights, Independent Fog Lights,
Cabin Air Filters, SU Shifter Bushings, 16" Alloy Wheels, AWR Passenger Mount, AWR Rear Motor Mount

RedLine Trans Oil Mechanic pulled the wrong work order.

Re: What would you do? talk about track car and daily driver.

I would go for option B. Although currently I'm running with option C, I do plan on buying a used Mini or something like that as a DD when the point comes where dailying my current car is no longer feasible.
