How to buy an engagement ring?

So im thinking of biting the bullet and doing it. ideally I WOULD GET a 1 carat solitare round cut on yellow gold. Prety simple. Any advice or horror stories out there?

Re: How to buy an engagement ring?

My two pieces of advice:

1. Don't focus so much on size, rather focus on quality of the diamond. A 1 karat diamond of lesser quality will not impress anyone....
2. Do not go shopping for rings at chain jewelery stores. They're a ripoff on engagement rings. Find a local jeweler/broker and go from there.

I also would never buy yellow gold because it's tacky, but that's just personal taste.

I'm sorry....

j/k, it's personal taste. There's just a reason yellow gold has plummeted in popularity over the last 20 years.

Buy what you can afford. Bluenile.com has some pretty decent stuff I think. I am looking to spend about 4000 bucks when the time is right.

Re: How to buy an engagement ring?

Make sure it's GIA certified. Shop around..don't worry so much about the size..it's also the design. I could have easily got my wife a 2ct diamond but she wanted a cushion cut with little diamonds all over so we got a 1.27ct ring with platinum. I don't think most women like yellow gold anymore so I'd look into platinum but that's all her. RESEARCH a REPUTABLE place to go to so you know your not getting cheated. I brought my wife w/ me so she can pick out what she wanted. I spent more than most people spend on a car so she had better like it and not just settle for it. Good luck!

Re: How to buy an engagement ring?

Man all this yellow gold hate! She is dark skinned and gold compliments her better than silver/platinum. Ive asked her and she has told me she wants a solitare on yellow gold. It will save me money on the ring which is a breeze. I would like to do anything around 1 carat but ideally not fucking spend more than 3G's....doubt it will happen :-(
