A question for those who are computer savy.

I just bought a 1TB external drive and it shows that there are only 930GB available. My question is what happened to the other 70GB? I tried looking on the manufacturer's website but no help there. 930gb is still a lot of space but it feels like false advertising to me. any help would be appreciated.

Re: A question for those who are computer savy.

You'll see this on just about every drive you encounter. In terms of the cause I was not sure either, so I did a little research.

Anyone know why my computer ask me to hit F1 upon boot up? It gives me some error about missing a drive or some crap.

Re: A question for those who are computer savy.

HDD manufacturers calculate capacity differently than the OS
1kb=1000bytes
1gb=1000*1000*1000 bytes

Most if not all OSs measure capacity in terms of primary memory
where 1 gb=1024*1024*1024 bytes

so this is normal...and i would expect ~930-935GB after formatting.

what's the error msg, exactly? the bios is detecting some hardware issue...but if it's something you aren't using, like a floppy drive, you can disable the prompt in the bios settings.

Re: A question for those who are computer savy.

so is your floppy drive nfg?

if so, either replace it or press f2 and disable the warning in the bios settings.

Re: A question for those who are computer savy.

lol, so go in and disable the floppy in the bios again so it won't look for it on boot up.

Re: A question for those who are computer savy.

In my BIOS it wont let me disable the floppy drive only change it priority (which i cant do either as its alone in the list). I disable all devices other then cd rom and HDD. Still getting that error.......
