Help with old Speakers

I found some old speakers lying around in the house. I'm not sure if they work or not, but I noticed that the wires look a little damaged and kind cut up a little.

I was wondering if anyone could deduce whether or not I could somehow save these speakers or to see if they can somehow work!

Sorry for the lousy pics. I can take better ones later if desired.

Any help?

Re: Help with old Speakers

Try an ohm meter. Should be around 8 ohms for home audio. Or plug them in and try them out. It is all low voltage so you are not going to get shocked

Re: Help with old Speakers

if you can take the grilles off you could check the condition of the cone. look for holes, cuts, etc.

Re: Help with old Speakers

I'm sorry, but I don't know anything about speakers, so...cones?...and all that.

That's why I'm asking for help.

Like I said, the ends looked pretty bad. I tried plugging them into one of my receivers and I didn't hear anything...

Re: Help with old Speakers

The cones are typically cone-shaped pieces on the front of the speaker cabinets.

Just hook em up to a standard stereo receiver and see what happens. Worst that can happen is they just won't work

Re: Help with old Speakers

Well, if they don't work, is there any way to fix them?

Re: Help with old Speakers

If they don't work, might want to dismantle them and have a look at the wiring.

Re: Help with old Speakers

Yeah, I tested them both twice on my receiver and got nothing..

Hmmm...I could try and open them up and take pics.
