Top Gear - Car manufacturer that has made the greatest cars over the year

Yesterdayís episode of Top Gear showed the results for the car manufacturer that has made the greatest cars over the year.

People voted Ford as the winner followed by VW and BMW (I think thatís correct).

The guys at Top Gear thinks is Lancia

What do you guys think?

Here is the original link:

Remember, heís not looking for the best car manufacturer ever, but the company thatís produced more decent vehicles than any other since the wheel was invented.

I think is a great question because you really need to think a little bit to get a good answer.

Lancia, "back in the day" maybe. Today it's not even a luxurious brand anymore... Now it's simply fiat with leather and lancia emblem.

well depends what he means by decent. A decent design or quality? I would say lancia did make great luxurious cars like lybra, thesis, although their quality can be questioned. LEt's not forget lancia integrale, great rally car. If I'd have to agree with Top gear, it would be for the last model. Other than that i dont think it's the best brand of all in terms of producing decent cars. Just my opinion.

My brother and I were thinking ford or nissan. Nissan has some nice cars, but in terms of brilliant. I can only think of the skyline gtr and the nissan gtr. I havent really heard of lancia until now. I do admire the fact that they were always trying new things and that. Some of the cars they showed were brilliant, others werent.

Re: Top Gear - Car manufacturer that has made the greatest cars over the year

BMW has made some good ones, but I was suprised to see it on the list considering how often top gear bashes them a lot. Me personally I like the 3 series, they described them as being too big and boring on the inside.

The m5's have been great, m3's as well.

They kind of are boring inside, that interior layout has been around for years. My brother-in-law has a 2001 3series, and the interior looks identical to the current generation's 3series.

ahh. Yeah i havent seen the inside of the e46 as much. While we're on the subject of design. Clarkson always says how porsche is lazy and doesnt come up with any thing new. Jason Fried from 37signals actually used porsche as an analogy. They have really kept to a certain look and setup for the last 20-30 years. Each time they have been further refining it, making it better. He related this to developing an application, you add to it, polish things up, make it more efficient, more robust, etc.

That is my only complaint with BMWs. The interior. I dont understand how they can get exterior styling, performance, handling and quality right, yet REFUSE to update the interior. I have owned a few BMWs, and they all seem interchangeable on the inside.
