Police officer radar detector chat

Read what police officers are saying about us radar/laser detector users (Escort 8500 here). Two schools of thought on this (and it comes up in the thread) either we are looking to break the law big time or we are safer than the general public because we actually pay attention.

Re: Police officer radar detector chat

I find no fault. They're just doing their job, and talking about it on a forum. Id do the same thing if I were a cop. I find 90% of cops will let you off easy or all together if you don't give them a hard time and your not driving like a retard. Like most peole cops take their jobs seriously and to the heart, and when your using something that pervents them from doing their job it pisses them off. I can empathize.

Thats fine and for the most part I agree with you. You seem to have missed the officer who carrys around a radar gunn in his personal car and will hit people and make them slam on the brakes (on his off hours)..he thinks its funny. Or the officer who said when they are in training they will point the gunns across the river at the nearest highway and watch the crowd of cars slam on their brakes as they laugh at us. We deserve that? What if this horsing around should cause an accident or personal injury?

Re: Police officer radar detector chat

Ya that's pretty fucked up. They should loose their privilages, for such acts. But if your doing what your supposed to you wouldn't be slamming on your brakes, and you wouldn't have a radar detector. I do 15 over pretty much anytime I'm taking a long trip on the highway. I've blown by plenty of cops doing so and have yet to be pulled over. By long trips i mean any thing from my 1 hour trips to philly to my 1000mile trips to Fl. So I wouldn't say its a local thing, I done it in about every state on the east coast, blown by cops while speeding. Coming into Fl I did get poped doing 20 over once, by a rookie, I got a warning. If ya do get poped for doing 5-10 over, its probably just your day. Deal with it lol.

Re: Police officer radar detector chat

Well I got 'caught' doing 78 in a 40. I've ranted about this enough that people are probably getting tired of it, but I was actually doing 50 in a 40...I don't know how far up the cops head was in his ass or who he actually got the hit on, but it damn well wasn't me (oh and he was a raging asshole despite me being very calm and nice to him). Got that one knocked down to 49 in a 40 ($118 include court costs and a single point instead of 5 points, mandatory remmedial driving classes and a $290 ticket).

At any rate, I have yet to see or hear of anyone pulled over for doing 5 over, or even 10 over. Now doing 10 over might be a little risky since if your speedo is off, your 10 over could really be maybe as high as 15 over...but even then cops tend not to pull you over for that sort of thing unless you are obviously going a lot faster then everyone else.

I am human, I slow down if I see a cop on the road or running radar, but if I am doing my usual 5-7 over I damned well don't slow down. He/she can ticket me if they want and waste both our times, but I don't see a judge carrying the ticket for say doing 71 in a 65 zone (he/she would probably laugh).

It always pisses me off when I see a cop doing THE speed limit and no one will pass them. Fricken seriously, you think the cop is going to pull you over if you are doing 62 in a 55 while they are going 55 or 56? Probably not. I make sure I drive a bit cautiously, but if the cop wants to go slow, I say the hell with them. I don't pass cops if they are say doing 5 or 10 over...I figure that might actually be pushing it a little.

Re: Police officer radar detector chat

Depends if you are in a pack or alone. On long island I have it easy. I'm a 5-7 over person on the LI expressway and a 10 over person local streets. By easy I mean the police have so many good bogeys to pick from they dont even consider me UNLESS I am alone.

Good one: The other night coming home from band practice I get to a local school zone that is a 20mph. I dont fool around in school zones (this part of the state they dont give you a time window just a speed sign so I assume its all the time). While I'm doing 20mph the older bald gentlemen right behind me streaks over the double yellow around me and blows thru at about 60mph. People are too much.

That actually happened to a friend of mine. everyone was dragging ass behind a cop car doing 10 under the limit on a highway. he said fuck it and passed him doing the limit.
The cop pulled him over and was a total douchenugget about it, claiming "Don't you know you shouldn't pass a highway patrol car?!" I don't think he gave him a ticket, but still, just the hassle of being pulled over for some asshat's powertrip is annoying.

I haven't been pulled over with my radar detector in the windshield, but it's saved me from a couple of tickets already.

5port, where in LI are you from?

Re: Police officer radar detector chat

In PA ANY crime committed in a "school zone" is automatically a maximum sentence. I has a friend lose his license for 3 years for doing 45 in a school zone during school hours. Had another friend buy liquor (of age) from a store and walk home through school zone. He got stopped for being on the school property (the side walk in front of the school) with a closed bottle in a paper bag is his hand. He was charged with possession on school property, almost served a month, but opted for a few years on probation.
