Digi Cable Vs. Direct Tv

So I literally just had my direct tv installed. It's installed on 3 tvs. 2 hd (42" vizio 720p plasma & 52" sanyo 1080p LCD). Wasn't a bad install being my house was pre-wired up for it, HD compatible dish and all. I ordered just the basic setup. So after the install i sit down in my den in front of my 52" big screen to admire my new picture. And was it terrible... THE worst display i have ever seen... Every movement big or small turns into bunch of white lines and pixelation. So i call up direct tv, feeling pretty livid. They send the installer back and he replaces the coaxial cables w/ s-video and composite cables. It make no difference in video. So i ask the tech what the deal is, why does my dish put out a crappier picture then my cable. WAY crappier..... He says my tv's no good... Granted it is a "cheapo" from Walmart, it only ran me 1400$ Sure its no Sony but it shouldn't have a shittier picture when using a better signal. He agrees and says the only way i can get a better picture is to upgrade to an HD box and package. So I agree, so long as hardware is free, or else. 20 minutes on the phone and a 3rd visit back from the install tech and i get my way. At this point tho im feeling buys remorse, like im ripping myself off.

The decision to switch to dish was my fiances so i had little choice in the matter. They are installing the HD box on the 15th, the [email protected]$#ING 15th. I have two more days to cancel this plan. Should I or is direct tvs HD really good and worth the wait?

Re: Digi Cable Vs. Direct Tv

Wait, did you have HD with your cable package? If you did I can't see how you could possibly downgrade and be happy.

HD quality from satellite should be comparable to cable HD. Really depends on the cable provider though.

Re: Digi Cable Vs. Direct Tv

I signed up for just their basic package. But after they installed it, i come to find out it looks like shit on my big screen. So i call them to cancel and they kept sending their install tech back in efforts to fix the picture, with no luck.... On his 3rd visit he says there isn't shit he can do, i can either deal with it or upgrade to hd. So i chose option 3 few people know of, in PA you have 3 days to cancel almost any buyers contract even on cars. So i call to cancel and they offer to upgrade my box free to hd i just have to pay upfront and they'll credit my account. I said fuck no its free upfront or i walk. They agreed, but i have to wait till im outta my date to cancel to get my HD box and see if its even worth it for the HD. Im nervous if im stuck in a contract and still have a shitty picture im going to be VERY angry. I told them if the picture still sucks and they dont cancel my contract they're going to get a phone call daily about how shitty my picture is, and I wont stop till my picture is better or my contract is up. And im not kidding...

Doesn't sound good for satellite right now based on your situation.

Re: Digi Cable Vs. Direct Tv

Fuck satellite, all it takes is a good storm and boom no tv. With cable, as long as the electricity is on, you're good.

FiOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOS

Re: Digi Cable Vs. Direct Tv

Why did you buy an HDTV when you didn't even bother to stop and realize coax and s-video cables don't provide an HD picture?... *facepalm*

Don't complain about a service when you bought the wrong stuff.

p.s.
Satellite goes out RARELY in a VERY BAD storm IF installed properly.
Dish Network VIP722, VIP722k and up-coming VIP922 FTW.

waffles.
