Saturn Closing

It was announced yesterday that GM will be closing Saturn after Penske motor group walked away from the deal to purchase Saturn.

All about it on this link:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...e_company.html

What do all y'all think? I say one less poorly built vehicle on the road. I won't be shedding a tear when they go out. I only feel bad for the people that will likely lose their job because of this.

Like I said before... I'm not sure if I want to be a rider. If I ever do decide to do it, I will be starting small! lol

I think it sucks that we're losing another American brand.

Just another GM rebadge brand now...1 Opel, 1 faux-Opel, the rest GM clones that aren't even made in Spring Hill.
Good riddance, the market needs to be thinned of so many brands.

Chrysler and Dodge may be next, after FIAT seperates Ram (trucks, vans, commercial-Sterling) and Jeep to sell or keep. Then they'll take the existing dealer network and sell FIAT cars through that.

Mitsubishi can go, Mercury can go (even though I find their designs more appealing than the Ford equivalant), Suzuki can go, I'll think of a few more...

Pontiac is leaving, Hummer is likely being sold, afaik saab is going away too.

The world can do without Daewoo. Personally I couldn't care less if Chevy/Cadillac/GMC/Buick/Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep/Mercedes went under too.

Even know their sales aren't anything special, from owning one Mitsubishi's don't break. So I would like to see them stick around.

if this happened, car prices would go up, quality down, and their designs would get more and more boring..

back in the day you got american for power, japanese for reliability, and german for enginuity.

now adays either of the 3 have these 3 traits (some more than others) but the reason is because they would try to take business from eachother through competition. for example.

GM going all fuel effeciency which was normally a japanese car trait once people started buying more japanese due to high fuel prices.. the result? now GM's vehicles have the same power, but better MPG. then in return, honda starts making SUV's because they notice people buy fuel efficient SUVS' which leads to more evolution in other car companies and so forth.

Daewoo won't go anywhere, they sell a ton of cars in other countries. Saab was sold to Koenig.

the aura isn't terrible, and the sky is just sweeeeeet...

pontiac and saturn were like the best gm brands imo.

Re: Saturn Closing

In markets outside the US, Saturns are badged as Chevy's. Perhaps they'll carry this over to the US. The Astra is night and day better than the Cobalt. Too bad they're Opel platform is more costly, less profitable.

Re: Saturn Closing

Saturn was the best damn brand Saturn had. Ir was the most reliable and best priced, and really was gear toward mainstream America. And there quality only took a shit AFTER GM to them over and stopped using Honda drive trains. Not my favorite cars of all time but hands down my favorite American car company. I'm acutely kinda pissed Penske turned it down...
