Why I like my car

I've recently found myself surrounded with a lot of negativity and complaining about the Mazda 3. Problems with the dealership, issues with changing the cabin air filter, whining about the aux-in in the center console. So I thought I'd start a useless thread since I'm bored at work.

Quite honestly, the 3 has to be the best car I've ever owned, hands down. The first car was a 98 Cavalier which did it's job, it lasted 4 years until finally the suspension wore out, the engine was leaking oil, the a/c quit working, parts were just breaking left right and center. The second car was an 02 alero which I had the misfortune of owning for a year and a half. I traded it off b/c the torque converter in the engine was acting up, there was coolant leaking from lower intake manifold gasket in to the oil, the starter wasn't always working, the back bumper was cracked from a hit and run, the front suspension was shot, there was a weird electrical bug that would make it stop working, and to make matters worse, it ran out of gas lol.

I've had my 3 for 2.5 years now. In that time I've put more kms on it than I did on my two previous cars combined. It's held up amazingly. To my surprise I'm at 65k and I don't have to deal with engine problems, power window problems, heater problems, suspension/brake problems. Just basic transmission fluid and some new spark plugs. Yep, it's pretty damn good. This summer I had my car in the shop for 2 months after some ditz ho t-boned me; I really missed my car. For those 2 months I drove around in a crappy rental car paid for by insurance. Which I rarely ended up driving since I would often times just ride my motorcycle. After having not driven my car again for the last 2 weeks (been riding the bike instead) I got in it the other day and began to re-appreciate the smooth shifting, the sporty handling, and the fact that nothing was broken.

Like I said before... I'm not sure if I want to be a rider. If I ever do decide to do it, I will be starting small! lol

Re: Why I like my car

I completely agree. The only stock problems I've dealt with were the rotor I may have fucked up myself, and the pins in my MAF wiring harness which I definitely fucked up myself. Changing the fluids (I've done engine oil, ATF and Power Steering so far) has been relatively pain-free, and the car is certainly WAY more fun than my previous rides (99 civic over 100K and 88 626 also over 100K).

Re: Why I like my car

You know, having a car like this is really nice. Only thing is I find myself in this state of paranoia because I haven't spent enough on repairs I worry somethings going to go wrong and catch me off guard. For the last 2 years I've budgeted $200/month for repairs and maintenance which is what I'm used to paying.

Now I find myself with a rather large surplus and I end up putting toys in my car instead of repairs. It's kinda weird.

Re: Why I like my car

Its been hard not to love this car. When I had the chance to trade my 05 MZ3 for something bigger and better I had to go with the MS3. The car (and the community around it) were just too good to leave behind. Always nice to see that others love it this much too

Re: Why I like my car

I like my car because I've had it towed home 3 times in the last 6 months.

It's the fuckin' sweetest paper weight.

Went from a brand new 06 Silver Hatch to a Crispy 06 Hatch to a White 06 tC
I miss her

if you never messed with it, it woudnt have happened. why cant people understand that??

anyways..
my car before this one was a suzuki aerio.. that thing was a soldier, i would skip oil changes like it was out of style and R-N-D peel out everywhere (i was imature and young leave me alone) eventually it started giving me some problems. 3 electrical problems, 5 broken wheel studs on seperate occasions and then i hydroplaned it into a wall and sold it..

since then ive owned my 3 and can easily say its the reason im into cars at all again. Its leather isnt BMW quality, but it sure as hell looks nice, the guages beat that of even luxury cars from its time, and the entire car just presents itself as more expensive than it really is. i hit 75xxx miles not too long ago and besides a tranny flush and regular oil changes, 0 problems..still drives like the day i got it.. well, until i hydrolocked it a few weeks ago (its in the shop still) so i find myelf in a similar situation.. ive been riding my motorcycle as a means of transportation, and when i get it back.. DAMN am i gonna wax the living shit out of that car until my girlfriend leaves me!!
