Why are we loyal to oil brands?

i always wonder about people's preferences on things like oil and oil filters. i am 99.99% convinced that if someone used store brand oil and filter, changed every 5k miles, that they would never have an issue directly related to the oil and/or filter. but it's that .01% that compels me to associate with a particular brand of oil and filter.

additionally, how do you really (and i mean REALLY) know if a filter is better than another? every filter shows "scientific" proof of their products superiority. everyone has their opinions. but why? because, i am 99.99% sure it doesn't really matter about the brand. it just matters that you do it.

it's fun to do bad things

why are we loyal to anything...there was just something...an advertisment...and marketing slogan...urban legend...that got our attention...and we cling to it...and once we have set our sights on it there is not changing it...until we are betrayed haha

Re: Why are we loyal to oil brands?

nah...this runs deeper. i think it has to do with the fact it's related to our cars. people who get up tight about the "what type of oil issue" generally care about cars. let me add more to it...

what brand do you use? why?

it's fun to do bad things

Re: Why are we loyal to oil brands?

o i agree with the being crazy about it because it is our cars...but that doesnt explain the decision in the first place...just the fact that once we make that decision we stick with it

Re: Why are we loyal to oil brands?

I think it has to do with our early years. example....my parents used State Farm for insurance, now i do too. Dad always said chevy is garbage and fords rule, i feel the same. He used penzoil since i was a kid, now i use penzoil to....

God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy...

We also have used oil analyses that back up our claims that certain oils (Pennzoil Platinum 5w20) are just better for our Mazdas

Re: Why are we loyal to oil brands?

I'm a huge fan of Mobil 1. However, now that I bought a mustang, I think I'll be sticking with Motorcraft oil. Why? Well, it's made by ford, it's a synthetic blend, it's what came in the car from the factory so no dealership issues there, and its FREAKING CHEAP. I can get 6 quarts of oil and a motorcraft filter for $22 after tax. You can't even get 3 quarts of Mobil 1 for that price. Despite the cheap price, it's a very good oil which gets great reviews.

A revolution gets its name by always coming back around in your face.
