Let's just take a moment..

To remember all of the people who were in their own personal hell at this time in 2001.

Re: Let's just take a moment..

RIP.

I was sitting at this same desk that day. Remember racing home so I could at least see the TV news as the internet news websites were all disabled from the traffic.

A defining moment, for sure.

Re: Let's just take a moment..

Seems like people have forgotten already.... Not as much banter about 9/11 on tv as last year, only seen one news article so far today. Makes me kinda sad. I was in 10th grade history class, watching history unfold. The teacher brought a tv into the class and let us watch it.

It's weird every year for me. I remember the day itself and then the weeks until we finally initiated an offensive against the Taliban and AQ. My dad and I would complain every day about how long it was taking, and I'd wake up every morning to check the news to see if operations had finally started.

Then the whole anthrax scare, cornering OBL in Tora Bora, us almost killing the man we'd install as President of Afghanistan because of faulty JDAM coordinates, the prison riot in Mazar-e-Sharif that killed Johnny Spann etc., etc., etc.

Re: Let's just take a moment..

I was in 9th grade shop class when it happened. I remember all of the chaos around town because we lived only 6 miles from whiteman air force base, some of the students I went to school with couldn't go home for two days because no one was allowed on or off base.

Re: Let's just take a moment..

I remember living in the Bronx at the time, on a game forum while watching Fox5 news at the same time. My wife was at a job interview and me trying to convince her to leave. Late, I realized my brother, an NYPD officer at the time, should have finished his shift at 8am but was not answering his cell or home phone. I watched the news as police and firemen from all over headed down there. I remember thinking, after the first tower fell, whether or not he was down there. After the second tower fell and still no answer on either of his phones, I ran over to his apartment and hammered on his door - he answered. Turned out, he drove all the way back from Throggs Neck, where he was stationed, without ever turning on the radio. Went home, no TV on and went to sleep. I'm glad he didnt go down there until afterwards. I'm saddened that so many lost their lives down there, including a young fireman that I knew from grammar school. I'm saddened that I will never be able to show my children those massive buildings that my father worked on as a young man in construction. I'm sickened that after 9 years there is still no memorial, no freedom tower and the man responsible still breaths.
