Under 30?

I thought this was funny

THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!
If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking Twenty-five miles to school every morning....

Uphill... Barefoot...

BOTH ways

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter - with a pen!

Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take, like, a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!

Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! Nowhere was safe!

There were no MP3' s or Napsters! If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished and the tape would come undone. Cause - that's how we rolled, dig?

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either!
When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen... Forever!
And you could never win.. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel! NO REMOTES!!!

There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove! Imagine that!

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980 or before!

Regards,
The Over 30 Crowd

Re: Under 30?

I'm 29 but those all apply to me, but I'm close enough I guess that I can remember it . At a recent birthday party I went to we had to guess the names of various tv shows that were taped to our backs. They had to give me the ones that weren't on cable because I grew up without cable. I had one girl ask me if I was a Nickelodeon baby, and I said "I didn't have cable growing up." She then said "guess that's why you were valedictorian." Lol. So true. I didn't have internet until I was 18 either.

Re: Under 30?

When you were little you didn't have to deal with girls/guys texting you constantly!

When you were younger you didn't have to spend $400 on a game system to keep up with the in crowd!

When you were young kids actually got out and played outside together! Now it is impossible to get people to go outside. Computers and TV's own their lives!

When you were young you wern't barraged by tons of this horrible rap/pop/britney spears/boy band filth! You had real music!

When you were young Michael Jackson was still black and not a child molester.

When you were young you had actual TV and not "reality" TV.

When you were young cartoons wern't imported from Japan and redubbed in English.

When you were young Barney, pokemon, the power rangers, and blues clues didn't exist.

When you were young people would go to arcades and enjoy playing video games together. Now they just yell and insult eachother through their xbox headsets.

When you were young terrorists hadn't destroyed the world trade center and we hadn't destroyed two countries in retaliation.

When you were young kids everywhere wern't over-medicated for ADD and no child left behind wasn't around to make sure that the best and brightest were held back to keep them at the same level as average children.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. You over 30 crowd wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes as a kid post 1990!

Re: Under 30?

when you were little if you had a problem in school you fought it out by the bike racks, if we did that, the school police could arrest us.

when you were little you could actually get away with driving with a drink or 2 in you

when you were little candy didnt cost $2 a pop

when you were little everything you needed was walking distance, now we needed mom and pop to give us a ride because the nearest place to meet up is 20 miles away!

when you were little you could say (ill be home at 12PM) and show up without having your parents call you every 5 mins to check on you (embarassing you in front of girls)

when you were little adults werent bad parents for letting their kids walk a few blocks to their friends house past 8PM

when you were little you didnt have to ask a 21 year old to buy your movie ticket

when you were little you were treated with respect, and treated your parents with it back

when you were little it didnt matter how late you were out, cuz everyone was home early

when you were little people ENJOYED eachothers company, now people enjoy distancing themselves.

when you were little being 18 and having sex with your 17 y/o g.f didnt land you in jail and ruin your entire life. (when she wanted it 2)

when you were little speeding tickets were rare

when you were little people didnt make fun of you if you had a shit car, the fact you had one made you the shit, no matter how old and gay

when you were little movies, popcorn, candy, and ice cream were affordable

when you were little people were neighborly, now we constantly have to worry about impressing people we dont know and keeping our distances so were not "creepy" or "gay"

when you were little you could actually play dodgeball in school

when you were little your problems were your own and you could deal with them as they came

when you were little dad could work and mom could take care of the kids and give them attention, we get left home alone because both are parents are working 2 jobs each to pay the bills....

.... and i can go on and on, each generation has its own struggles. it doesnt mean some are harder/worst than others. id LOVE to have an arcade, ice cream shop, and candy store withing walking distance from my house where i can actually afford stuff with my allowance..

Re: Under 30?

i'm over 20, but honestly, I fit more into above description of the childhood. I dont really care about game platforms such as Ps3, xbox etc. Hate talking on the phone, I prefer to meet in person, but these days it's hard to get that from somebody, all you hear "I'll text you". Girls prolly werent that spoiled either, like they are today...

It's not so easy being young, you have to explain all of the modern stuff to old timers
