Sounds like some BS to me...

http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stori...s-crash/?metro

He couldn't have put the car in neutral? OR put the clutch in? This is why we NEED better driver training.

Re: Sounds like some BS to me...

Can you even get that car with a manual trans? I doubt a loaner would be a manual.

Yeah I think so. I really don't see how this can be true.

An electrical or mechanical failure could have made it impossible to shift into neutral, said Daniel Vomhof III, a vehicle accident reconstructionist with La Mesa-based Expert Witness Services.

Re: Sounds like some BS to me...

It it were true then that's TWO major defects in this vehicle. That's a lot of coincidence.

Re: Sounds like some BS to me...

I've heard some cars got a safety (for the engine) that you can't shift into neutral in full throttle so you don't bang it off the rev limiter. Maybe that's the case here. Who knows. That "safety feature" sounds like BS to me, because then it would make it a lot easier for stuff like this to happen.

Maybe the guy was just suicidal and hated his wife and decided to kill everyone. And to make himself look innocent, hes like "OH MY GOD THE THROTTLES STUCK!!!! SOMEONE CALL 911."

Re: Sounds like some BS to me...

Sounds feasible, but i thought shifting into neutral is what everyone is suppose to do when they find themselves in a precarious situation like slipping in snow or needing to slow down faster. I read that in a lot of my vehicle owners manuals.

I'm slightly tempted to go try and full throttle with my fusion and put it into neutral.

Re: Sounds like some BS to me...

Never tried it at full throttle but I can tell you what happens when you accidentally shift a 93 Taurus into reverse when you're going forward :hide:

It shuts off the engine before any damage can occur to the tranny.

My '91 Taurus didn't do that, It would just go into neutral, however the reverse lights would still go on.

It was totally a great way of fucking with people tailgating you.
