Re: Having the appendix removed

I had mine out two months ago. you might have to stay overnight at the hostpital, and depending on what you you do it should only take maybe a few days to recover. I couldn't go back to full work dutys for almost a month.

It's a pretty simple surgery. Probably in-patient overnight, but recovery is usually pretty quick.

Is yours inflamed?

Re: Having the appendix removed

I think I remember my Dad telling me he spent 2 days in the hospital when he had his removed when he was about 12...but his was also so inflamed that it had nearly burst by the time it was removed (A 2hr drive to the closest hospital from a Newfoundland park where they were camping and emergency surgery). He was up and around pretty quickly and I think he said he was just fine running around and playing with his friends like a week or two afterward.

Re: Having the appendix removed

I had mine done several years ago. It was burst (and gangrenous) prior to the surgery, so the surgery could not be done Laparoscopicly. It was done via a incision approximately 3" long on the lower ride side of my abdomen.

The recovery time on the open surgery was a decent time. I spent 2 nights in the hospital after the surgery and it was painful to sit up or move around for about a week afterwards. Full recovery of the incision was about 3 weeks with limited exertion so the incision would stay closed.

The Laparoscopic surgery, which cover the majority of the people who get their appendix removed, recovery time is very minimal from what I understand.

Re: Having the appendix removed

I had mine taken out about 2 years ago. AFAIK (as i was put out) the actual surgery was wicked fast. recovery time for me was a week however b.c it burst as they were pulling it out. :x There's really nothing to be worried about. its nice knowing i cant get appendicitis again.

I had mine done about 10 years ago, it was about 2 full days before I was able to be normal again.
