Mirage into EVO 6

Some guy is doing that project, with his mirage. I was actually thinking, since no Evo 6 was sold here. I was thinking, if it is possible to get evo 6 from Japan. Ofcourse it cant be registered, since it was never sold here, but is it possible to at least get it off the boat and into own garage? If yeah the rest would be damn easy, just taking mirage's VIN and putting it in the evo (illegal way) or simply take time, changing, fitting parts from Evo into Mirage.

Re: Mirage into EVO 6

You can buy cars from Japan and get them into your garage for track and show use only, just cant drive them on public roads. All you have to do is pay shipping and customs fees.
Now if you actually want to legally drive them on roads, its a whole new story.

Re: Mirage into EVO 6

Sounds kind of stupid to me... If you got that kinda of money why would you piss it away on a Mirage? Or Shipping an EVO here? Buy a used ~05 which has more power and better handling in the first place and it's legal.

For once I agree w/ you however it can be registered in some states. I've seen quite a few skylines w/ NJ tags before. They were never sold here so I doubt the Evo situation would differ. I've seen quite a few Toyota Chasers, etc as well. So yes it can be imported and registered but I know it varies state by state as to what a PITA is may be.

Its the same law in all states. Just because you saw one, doesnt mean it was just flown in and legally registered. They could have been converted to american specs, illegally driven, or US cars modded to look like the Japanese equivalent.
The laws are governed by DOT. Unless the vehicle is 20 years or older, the laws apply about being dot compliant across the US. If over 20 years old, they can be imported as antiques and driven as so.

REX motorsports use to be a huge importer, but I heard they had some legal issues, not sure if they are still around. I lived in Europe for years and wanted to bring a skyline back to the US. Its really expensive to get it converted. But I could have got it into my garage for around $2000, but not converted and not street legal.

Well Evo VI is better imo. Faster, lighter. Also, changing the vin numbers sure is illegal, but i think it would fly by at DMV. Few people put sentra vins into skyline and got it registered as Nissan Sentra. With Evo it would be even easier, since those cars have pretty much same body, other than body kits.

You'd have issues with insurance though. You'd never be able to make a claim as its likely you'd be found out for fraud (Insurance fraud and DMV fraud...whatever the heck that would actually be).

it's illegal all over. There is a legal way to get a skyline in the states. There's a company that takes skyline frames, does some mods to the frame and makes sure the glass is DOT approved, exports the frame and then the buyer imports the motor separately.

Re: Mirage into EVO 6

I mean yeah, there must be a way to bring those cars to states. Not a long time ago (about a month) there was a showcase in Chicago. I didnt have a chance to go there, but my brother took few pictures. There were S15, Skylines, supras (well mostly 240's). Interesting thing is that there were two new Gtr's and r34 in the middle of them. Almost nobody cared about new ones, all the people went to Skyline as my brother and his friend told me.

Re: Mirage into EVO 6

Why would you pay to import a car that will never make more then 500whp, on normal gas? For what it would cost you, you could pick up an older Stang gt, throw a blower on it and run 11's till your blue in the face. Don't like the drag strip? Pick up a Miata, 240, hell you can get a lotus cheaper....
