Is Clinical Depression Real?

I did some reading and it all sounds to me like normal human behavior usually related to the stresses of life. Most if all symptoms are found by anyone having a shitty day, week, month. Are the drug companies and medical field taking us for our money or is there something internally wrong with sad people?

there is something internally wrong

but personally imo, I feel it's blown out of proportion and or fixable without meds.

Re: Is Clinical Depression Real?

It's real; and it's not really all 'sad' people. It just happens to some people without their control. But I agree that meds aren't really a good way to work with it, its like the ADD/ADHD deal that is grossly over medicated.

depression is a chemical imbalance in your brain, you can't really control it, just as stated, ADD or ADHD (aderol ftw =P)

Meds help, but they are the be-all, end-all cure.

Re: Is Clinical Depression Real?

I here this chemical imbalance phrase a lot. What does it mean, what chemicals, what are the normal levels. Or is it like everything else health related. "We thought it was good but oops we were wrong" Hell all the meds i have ever herd of to help with depression "Can cause thoughts of suicide or worsening depression".

Re: Is Clinical Depression Real?

Depression defined by brain chemistry is an abnormally low level of the neurotransmitter Seratonin.

How a drug affects a person is going to be different from person to person. what helps someone in some cases worsens the depression in another.
