Clothing ?

I have a professional interview tomorrow,. and of course I'd like to look my best, I have a suit but unfortunately the pants don't fit me so well anymore, but the coat does. My question is can a person were a suit coat as a sport coat or is there a difference that a trained eye would spot?

Re: Clothing ?

I'm no expert, but I think it depends heavily on what the suit coat looks like. I think with some it would be obvious, and with others, not so much.

Re: Clothing ?

You can, but it is very dependent on the style of jacket/coat. If it's a simple style fabric and color, you could probably find a pair of slacks that match. I don't know if you have a Macy's nearby, but I just got some great deals on pants and shirts there, over the weekend. Make sure whatever pants you get, your tie matches that and the shirt you're wearing.

It'd be almost as dressy/professional to not have the jacket at all then to make it look like a sport coat. A bigger impression is how well the clothes are pressed and fitted, as well as your own appearance, but obviously the impression you make and the work you can do is much moreso. If the company/firm you're interviewing with is a little more casual, then you could forego the jacket and just wear a shirt and tie. Of course, the mountain west is probably a little more relaxed on work attire than the east coast (assumption).

Re: Clothing ?

So there are no real distinguishing characteristics like length, pockets, or number of buttons. I'm pretty sure a woman must have invented the terms then... I always hated fashion.....

Re: Clothing ?

The important thing is that your are coordinated, clean and present yourself well. Pants are easy to disguise, it will be your jacket, shirt and tie that will have the most impact. Also, you'll be seated for the majority of your time.

Re: Clothing ?

A sport coat is a little more "loose", and usually tweed, wool, or linen. I would say wearing a suit jacket as if it was a sport coat is more akin to a "blazer" style jacket.
