Planning a 7000 mile roadtrip *(Updated with pics link in first post)*

Me and my buddy have a rare opportunity to travel across the US in August. I put together a map of the route we planned tonight (still in the roughest of planning stages). I though it would be nice to get some suggestions of places that are worth seeing.

Here is a link to a map of the route. I left it open so anyone could change it. So feel free to add a placemark.

Update

I'm back. Here are some of the panoramas I took on the trip. Some are good, some are bad, some are terrible.

Enjoy

Re: Planning a 7000 mile roadtrip and could use some advice.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

Tail of the dragon would be awesome, just have to watch out for the motorcycles (makes some good youtube videos).

As far as details, I've been saving up for a cross country drive for years. Yesterday, my buddy was half joking that we should drive to California since we have the time off. Then one thing led to another and it turned into a serious plan. The trip is purely for fun and I would like to go every place that people have suggested, but the gas budget tops out at around 7,000 miles.

The plan is to start in NC and take interstate 40 west, travel through CA, visit Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore and then head back to WV.

Some of the things I'm looking forward to the most are the Grand Canyon, driving the pacific coast highway and Yellowstone park. I have friends or family in NC, NM, AZ and CA, so it shouldn't be to bad a drive.

Stay off the interstates, take the blue roads.
