Truck, SUV, Crossover, Hatch Back or Mini van

The lines are getting blured. In an effort to sell whats popular car companies have changed trucks in to SUVs and Cars into Crossovers.
The problem is SUVs are being called Crossovers and Crossovers are being called SUVs.
Now General motors has produced a Chevy and a Buick mini van but they are calling it a Crossover because that name sells, when all they did was removed the sliding door.

I say call it what it is. A truck is a truck, an open or closed bed vehicle used for hauling.
A SUV is a truck with carlike interior, same truck chassie and performance.
A crossover is a hatch back on steroids (a mini version of a station wagon) larger and beefyer than a car but by no means a truck. Typically a true Crossover has a awd car chassie and suv space.
A mini van is pretty much self explainitory, Not a popular term so now we have the General motors restyled mini van being sold as a crossover.
Chrysler use to boast of creating the mini van, I am not sure who created the crossover but for my money I would say Infiniti perfected it in their FX45
Any contrary views or other observation on the SUV, Crossover phenomena?

See, that's why I like the Flex. It's a wagon/crossover/minivan.

Eventually we'll be back to wagons, which is fine with me. And SUVs will go back to being what the used to be: utility vehicles.

Re: Truck, SUV, Crossover, Hatch Back or Mini van

Found out my fiance was pregnant, so i needed another vehicle.  i wanted a car, for eco/financial reason, she wanted a "baller pimpin" SUV, we were both pretty firm on our reasoning.  So we got the SUV (01 infinit qx4)..... About a year later she wants to trade it in for a car, and i love it to death, wouldn't sell it for anything.  IT goes threw snow like its nothing, fits all the kids and groceries, looks good, and i can still use it as a work truck when i need to.  Only thing i would consider trading it in for is 05+ F-150 extended cab short bed.

Believe me, If you trade your Japanese made Infiniti for an American made Ford, you will rue the day. there is just no comparison in the build quality of the two companies
Stick with Infiniti the Q56 would be a nice upgrade from the Q45.
I bought American, for years I was a Ford man Lincoln MKs were my favorite, until a few years back when I bought my wife a Nissan Maxima. Nothing but gas, oil, and brakes for the first 9 years.
American fords are truly Fix Or Repair Daily
I traded in my Lincoln MKVIII for a Infiniti FX and never looked back.

There are so many reports/articles to disprove your theory there. My dad had a 90 F-150 V8, sold it in 1996 with over 170K miles on it and all it had was regular maintenance. He then bought a used 97 F150 V6, then sold it to me. I had it for just about 2 years and sold it before going to college with around 220K on it.

Comparing a 93-98 car to an Infinity FX is a terrible comparison, imo.

I was not comparing years as much as manufactures. I would still say that a 93-98 japanese vehicle is a better built machine than the average 93-98 american built machine.

True you can get a good American made vehicle that really lasts and performs well but thats the exception not the norm.
Overall Japanese vehicles are longer lasting, better quality machines.

I'm confused. Data comes out now showing that Fords are of comparable quality, so you counter with vehicles that came out 16 years ago? Ok.

Maybe you should have put that caveat out there when you made that misguided claim.

Yeah, even magazines that usually favored Japanese makers (like consumers reports) are saying that Ford is as good as (if not better) than them. Last I checked, all of the newer Ford models were Consumer Reports "Best Buys" or "Recommended Buys" , with exception to the Explorer, Crown Vic, and Ranger, all of which are older vehicles.

I wouldn’t trust Consumer Reports or JD Power. Just a personal opinion
