danielj goes to the BMW factory in Munich

Last week I had the pleasure of going to Europe with my friend. The purpose, to pick up his new BMW 3 series convertible.

It was an amazing experience and I found the BMW facility to be so impressive, I thought I's post up a few pictures here.

We arrived in Munich to pick up the car, then drove (he let me drive, the Autobahn is awesome) to Paris and finally Amsterdam (best place ever!) where we dropped off the car.

The design of the BMW Welt is supposed to resemble a tornado.

Back side

You enter their main showroom which has all the current models in display. I enjoyed seeing all the Euro spec models with their different levels of trim.

We were then on to the buyers lounge which felt like a nightclub, I kept looking for the DJ. :P

Owners new cars arrive via the coolest elevator where they then present the new car to it's owner.

And his new car (with only 0.2 miles on the it!).

Then we made our to the factory tour. Unfortunately cameras were not allowed. It was a pretty cool experience to see the process from sheet metal stamping to the final dyno of the cars. They place a transponder in the frame of each body. A signal is sent to each station telling the robots how to equip the car (destination country, color, options and equipment) and each car is uniquely built. Very cool to stop and watch it all happen.

Here is the outside

We returned the next morning to tour the BMW Museum. The space is so modern and beautiful.

This display was so cool. Each ball is suspended and appear to be flooting. They did an amazing dance and cycled through the history of the BMW line-up. I wish I had it on video.

Thanks for looking

That is so awesome. If I ever buy a Bimmer or Volvo I'm totally doing it this way.
