need to vent a bit here

Sorry, have to vent here.

So yesterday I installed my my mazdaspeed exhaust, I was happy, ya know ya post it on facebook because your stoked. Well of course i'm the dude who's dad goes on facebook......the hell? so I come home today after a night at work and he asks me about it. This is the guy who thinks since he was a registered inspector in NY back in 1970 something, so he's the all knowing god of cars and what's legal. So the exhaust was put on amazing, but without even looking at it he doesn't think it will pass inspection and thinks the welding job is going to be shitty, regardless that my friend who did this does it for a living. So we're talking about it and somehow we get to the topic of me going to Beaver Springs Dragway (a drag strip about 40 minutes away) on friday night. So him being the expert he thinks he is says he doesn't want me to go because my 4 cylinder car wasn't meant to go fast. He thinks if my car goes too fast it will die on the spot and says it's meant to go 0-60 in 30 seconds and is meant to last a while, unlike the people who go their with expensive cars that were meant to go fast or shitty cars people don't care about. He's also worried because he cosigned for the loan and thinks if it somehow gets totaled that i'm fucked for life or some shit. Bottom line is he doesn't want me to go because he thinks my car can't handle it and will die and thinks it's completely unsafe and isn't legal. I just didn't know that when you're a legal adult paying for your own shit and own insurance that the folks have any say in this shit.

sorry, had to say this shit and get opinions on racing on drag strips at a legal speedway.

Re: need to vent a bit here

If anything an exhaust will make it run better. It reduces back pressure, and therefore workload on the engine. Also, in a slower car, one is less likely to die than in a faster car. The faster you go, the more dangerous is a crash is. Now I mean this in the most respectable way, but your dad is an idiot. Maybe more overprotective than an idiot, but still a bit of an idiot.

Your Dad is just being your Dad plain and Simple, if your still living and home and hes providing for you, he has the right to voice his opinion about anything you do. Once you move out, you can make your own choices, if he does not like it then- oh well, but for now, hes the Master Chief.

Being that Im now 34 and had this exact same conversation with my Dad when I was 18, I know I was pissed like you, but guess what, my Dad let me go drag racing with my 92 Beretta after I upgraded the exhaust, intake and a few other things and I messed up the motor and it ran like crap, so he was right.

I'm not saying this would happen to you, but it could.

But if your not living at home, well then what you do is your final call.

Re: need to vent a bit here

as much as I hate to admit it (being I'm 20 going to school and living at home in the spare time) tekwatch is right.

My dad is constantly giving me shit about ANYTHING I do to my car. Just live with it. lol

My dad doesn't give me crap about stuff I do to my car, but that's probably because he drives a Prius and doesn't know shit about performance

25, but he co-signed on the loan so it's sort of similar.
