Find me a truck

I want a truck. Not just any truck though, I want a Ford. I'd much rather be pushing a Ford than driving a Chevy or a Dodge. Screw that Jap crap too, trucks are supposed to be big, bad, and ugly. So that means it's got to be American.

I don't just want any Ford though. No sir. Screw this new fangled computerized bullshit. I don't want to push a stinkin button to engage the 4 wheel drive. Hell no! I want to pull a lever into position grinding gears in the transfer case in the process to engage 4 wheel drive. I also dont want something that requires me to get hooked up to a computer for them to run tests every time I have to get new license plates. Screw that expensive ass coil on plug ignition system too. It's a pain in the ass. Give me something with a distributor. I want a real truck!

So with that in mind. Here's what I require:
-1995 or earlier F-150 4x4.
-5 speed manual
-300 inline 6
-Decent mileage
-Something that isn't rusted apart
-I want something relatively clean with no major mechanical issues. If I got to throw on a set of wiper blades and replace some bulbs / brake pads in order for it to pass inspection, that's no big deal. If I got to replace the springs because they are sagging like hell, that's kind of a big deal.
-Tires better be in good shape.

I'd prefer to get one that's stock. I don't really want to get one that's lifted, because that's buying into someone else's problem. Unless they have documentation of what lift kit is on there, and how much it is lifted. I don't want it.

So if you guys know where to find one of these, please hook a brother up. Everyone down here drives chevy's with tree fiftys in 'em.

Re: Find me a truck

w00t w00t! Another Ford fan. 'Rents have a '99 F150 (and an '03 Dodge  :P ), sister has an '04 Mustang sixxer, and I'm the semi-outcast by having a MZ3.

I basically took over the F150 (still legally theirs) since they don't drive it/care about it much anymore. They bought it brand new off the lot in '99. 2WD, 5.4L 330ci 4 valve V8, Super Cab. It now has around 91K on it, but the 'rents are thinking about selling it and getting...a Ford Escape i-4WD. So I was thinking about asking if they'd sell it to me. I am thinking about getting a 3.5" spindle lift so I can get that California rake (ya know, the ass-low prerunner stance).

Anyway, good luck on your search. We gotta show dem Chevy boys that they drive maxi-pads with wings (oh wait, I was the one that was about to get a Taco 4x4 instead of a MZ3). :P

Re: Find me a truck

You replace the oil pump in that 5.4 yet? If not, get ready to. It's knocking on heavens door right now.

No, not yet. It looses about a quart of oil between changes though. I don't think it's burning any, but the oil pan seems to be leaking a little bit. What are the symptoms of a bad oil pump?

Re: Find me a truck

Well, you don't really get any warning with that motor, sadly. One day you'll hear a rod knocking and that's when you know the oil pump finally broke apart all the way.

What happens is, the oil pump starts breaking up, and pieces of metal start floating around in the pan, and the little bitty pieces actually make it look like you have higher oil pressure than what you really do.

When you drop the pan to fix the leak, I'm sure you'll see a bunch of metal shavings in the bottom of it. It's a common issue with that motor. Ford used a really shitty oil pump from the factory. Drop in a melling and you'll be good to go for another 300k miles.

While your in there fixing it, you might as well replace the main and rod bearings too. Cost you around $150 in parts for the pan gasket, all the bearings, and the new pump.

Re: Find me a truck

The 5.0 in my exploder runs like new w/ 115,000 on it and just traded a 1999 ecpedition w/ a 4.6 and 213,000 miles..truck was also in perfect condition. I think REQUIRING the 300 I6 is a tad overkill as you'd find a 5.0/AOD much faster.

Re: Find me a truck

AOD????? No way I'm driving a slush box.

302 is a great motor, but I prefer the 300.

Re: Find me a truck

I got a 1994 f-350 dually with a (either a 6.9 international or a 7.3 ford) turbo diesel and a 5 speed.

174k, flatbed, low rust.

5th gear grinds nice and hard if you shift high. Ballsy.

I bet I could get it to ya for REALLY cheap!
