Windows 7... worth the upgrade?

Currently have Vista home premium, is it worth the upgrade?

I'm asking this because I bought my laptop back in October so I don't qualify for a free upgrade by HP (or any other manufacturers)

But newegg is selling it for $50 for home premium, pro for $100

I've been running the release candidate for since it was released and the beta before that. I really like it, it hasn't given me any problems what so ever since I got the RC. The beta had a few bugs but that's why it was a beta.

Once I'm forced to pay for it(the RC license i believe expires sometime in April of 2010) I will probably buy it

the home will stay at $50 while the pro will stay at $100 until mid july

After that, the prices will sky rocket back to their normal range

Yeah I know, or maybe I'll just 'acquire' it.....

Just so you know, it does seem to take up a little bit more ram, I was running XP before i switched to 7 so i don't know how my ram usage compares to vista but right now I'm using at 1.4gb of ram with a bunch of programs running. (NOD32, Steam, Everest, Rivatuner, Miranda IM, bunch of mozilla tabs, etc...

Re: Windows 7... worth the upgrade?

I used the RC over vista before I started using XP again. I currently dual boot 7 and XP. Bye bye vista...

It doesn't use anymore memory than win xp, it's faster than xp too.

Re: Windows 7... worth the upgrade?

I installed RC1 on my old-backup Athlon64 2GHz machine with 2GB of RAM and it runs faster than XP. Well worth the upgrade! Windows 7 is what Vista should've been.

I run Vista x64 on my quad-core Q6600 @ 3GHz and 4GB of RAM and will be trying that out soon as well.

Re: Windows 7... worth the upgrade?

I tried Windows 7 for 20 min.

Booted back into Vista Ultimate, backed up the good stuff and performed a clean install of 7. I'm not going back, you couldn't pay me, and at $50 it's a steal. No more ridiculous directories, and my RAM is mine again. F Vista.
