Man, South Carolinians picked a real winner.

Don't give us money! We might have to tell people later that we have to reduce their temporarily increased benifits!

Psst, staff tell them I am hiking, cause that is what I told me wife. Opps honey, you found those hand cuffs and ladies underwear in my hiking pack with airline stubs from Argentina? I guess I better tell everyone before you do.

Re: Looney toons

LOL, just goes to show you that they're all bums. The "Culture of Corruption" was just supposed to be the Republicans, but has been shown to be as bad, if not worse, in the Democratic party over the last year. Clinton was the big bad person for Lewinsky and Edwards slept around on his dying wife, Spitzer, etc. Then you have Ensign, Sanford, Larry Craig, Condit, etc.

Politicians should all just DIAF so we can get new ones. After all, wildfires actually rejuvenate forests.....

Unless you allow unnatural land/fire management to allow things to get seriously over grown. Then you just have a massive forest fire that destroys the entire forest taking decades to regrow.

True, which I guess is what we've done here by almost insuring most incumbents constant reelection.

Having lived in SC I can say it is a corrupt and in many ways backwards ass state.

No, the media that wastes time on all this should DIAF.

All the environmentalist boo-hooed Bush's plan to help rejuvenate/manage the forests by creating controlled wildfires. Probably wouldn't have the scale of wildfires that we've had (and will continue to) in the past decade. Again, a great plan that wasn't well understand and thus, never executed.

Re: Looney toons

Except the problem is that he probably wanted massive wild fires (instead of planed) where, conveniently enough, access roads, test wells, etc could were planned to be built for all of the mineral rights that were leased for a song.

Or maybe that is just my untrusting personality.

Controlled burns are done and have been for years in state/federal land. The problem is that it is difficult to do a controlled burn near a highly populated area. In those areas things are focused more on preventing a burn from happening or getting out of hand, which leads to massive amounts of under brush and tinder laying around that would otherwise naturally be removed periodically.

Its hard to do say, a 100,000 acre controlled burn.
