Dealer Demo Car Rant.

My wife has a 2007 Vue Hybrid 40,000 miles on it. We are looking at possibly trading it in. Looked at a dealer last night that had 2 black equinoxes both AWD 1 a LS the other a LT.
LS priced at $27,045
LT priced at $27,600 Sticker
The LT is a Demo vehicle with 7,200 miles on it.
Now the salesman priced out the LS for us before we saw the LT. He looked into the LT and said wow lets see what i can do with this demo. He cam back and told us he could give it to us the same price as the LS. so essentially hes knocking about $550 off sticker price of a car that IMO is used. We get $3000 off for GM discount but still my thinking is that car should be at least $2,000 below sticker price with over 6 months worth of driving on it. when i drive my car for work i get $.52 per mile. X 7200 Mi = $3744. I told him id take $1000 more on the trade in and $2000 off the Demo LT and we would have a good deal, but my wife and I would have to discuss this at home (she does not make decisions on the spot like that). They would not, they said they could make a deal with us if we were willing to sign that night which wasnt going to happen. well we left there with them saying they would give us $1500 off the Demo and $500 more on the Vue. And we walked. any thoughts.
I can't believe someone would buy a car with 7200 miles on it that someone has driven for 6-8 months for full price. he seemed appalled i would think that.

Re: Dealer Demo Car Rant.

Well, isn't the LT considerably more expensive new? Doesn't sound like you'd be paying original MSRP..

The LT should be at least $5k off sticker. It will be as soon as you drive it off the lot (or more!). Demos around here are much cheaper.

I had to turn my demo's in at 5k. 7,200 is a lot of miles. It's basically a used car.

I would shop elsewhere.

Yeah, seems a little high for that Equinox. I'm surprised that you even want one given that it's basically the same thing as your VUE (minus the crappy hybrid system).

My wife has a 2008 Escape Limited. A really nice car. We got it for almost $10k under MSRP last summer before the economy went off the cliff. Should be able to still get a great deal now.

Good call. Plus, the Equinox is at the end of it's design cycle and was never very popular to begin with. For 27k, there are many better options.

Good plan--I drove one of those as a rental a couple years ago, and for an SUV it's really not bad.
