Correct title/license fee for new car???

Hey guys, i'm trying to help my girl get a newer Subaru Impreza and I think the dealer we're messing with isn't doing the numbers right. It's an 08 Impreza with 12k miles and we offered $13.5K+Tax,Title,License, and they first refused over email. Well, I got an email from the a few days later saying that they accepted our offer and the numbers they send I didn't think were right.
Car:$13,500
Tax:$1,325
License:$300
First off tax is only 8% in WA so it should only be $1080 according to my math, and I think that $300 for title and license fee is not correct. I bought an 06 BMW last october and paid $81 for title and license, so I think they are trying to take us for a ride. Charging an incorrect ammount for taxes, title, and license can't be legal either. I guess my question is how do I determine what the correct ammount we should be paying for title, and license fee????

Thanks,
Eric

Re: Correct title/license fee for new car???

Uh, try calling your state Department of Motor Vehicles. They can either tell you exactly what it should be for a 13,500 car or else they can tell you the percentages and set dollar amounts. $300 for title and license does sound high and the tax also sounds incorrect. A quick look over of the WA DMV website (which you could look at ya know) seems to indicate that your $81 is around right. I didn't check the tax rate.

One question on the price/tax. Is it 13.5 taking in to account a trade-in? Or is it a standalone purchase with no trade-in? If there is a trade in the tax is based on the actual selling price, not the price minus trade in. If you find out exactly what the correct numbers are let the dealership know what they should be. You can inform them that you contacted the deparment of motor vehicles to verify what the amounts should be.
