Had my driving instincts checked today...

Driving to lunch and I sped up to make it through a green light turning left at an intersection. I was talking on the phone with my left hand and my right hand was on the wheel. I wasn't going *that* fast so I guess I drove over some gravel or something. Anyway, the rear end came loose and I had countersteer to avoid spinning out, all while not expecting it and talking in the phone.

Even though I ended up going the way I intended to go just as if I had been trying to show off, it was still scary. I dont even use the phone that much in the car, so it was just bad timing. Im just glad I didnt wipe out. Maybe pushing my car to the limits in autocross a few times helped prepare me for the situation and how to handle it by reflex?

a lot of the time I have have to pull out right before its too late. I think my reflexes are pretty spot on from all that practice.

Yeah, I guess the autocross did help lol! That's partly why I am going to start autocrossing. I want to learn how to control my car if something like that happens. I don't usually talk on the phone while driving either. Most people I talk to know I don't, so if I don't pick up, they should know why.

I keep my bluetooth headset that I got free with my phone in my center console, just in case I get into a longer convo. Usually my conversations in my car involve either where I am or when I'll be back lol.

Those are basically my conversations and they are pretty much only with my wife. It is a "where are you? When are you coming home? Oh, I forgot to ask you to get X?" Etc. I think my longest phone conversation while driving ever was about 2 minutes.

Re: Had my driving instincts checked today...

It's now illegal in Montreal to talk on the phone while driving. Let's just say the hands-free bluetooth devices were selling like hotcakes for the past few months.
Tickets are like 140$ or something. I guess a few people ruined it for everyone!
